STAC FAX Index #3001 12/04/92 COUNTRY CODE and STACKER 3.0 CREATE Background. Using several country codes with the COUNTRY.SYS command in the CONFIG.SYS causes two unexpected Stacker 3.0 errors. The COUNTRY.SYS line in the CONFIG.SYS looks similar to the following line: COUNTRY=046,, C:\DOS\COUNTRY.SYS This example, using the first parameter 046, sets up the Swedish country code which will cause the following line to appear during SETUP: Create error: invalid numeric entry (/^R=2.0) followed by, Create error #1--invalid parameter The second scenario involves SDEFRAG using the /GP switch and choosing the option to "Increase the Drive Size". This action, because of the country code, will pass an invalid parameter to the CREATE command. The results, transparent to the user, will most likely be a random, unexpected final compression ratio. The following country codes, denoted with the X, will work properly with Stacker 3.0. The remaining country codes use a comma as a decimal separator and will have an invalid parameter passed to CREATE during these two circumstances. Country Decimal Stacker 3.0 Code Country Separator Compatible ______ _________________ _______ _________ 1 United States . X 1 Canada (English) . X 2 Canada (French) , 3 Latin America . X 31 Netherlands , 32 Belgium , 33 France , 34 Spain , 39 Italy , 41 Switzerland . X 41 Switzerland . X 44 United Kingdom . X 45 Denmark , 46 Sweden , 47 Norway , 49 Germany , 61 Australia . X 81 Japan* . X 82 Korea* . X 86 Taiwan* . X 88 PRC* . X 351 Portugal , 358 Finland , 785 Arabic , 972 Israel . X * DOS version 4 only This issue has been corrected. Installation Procedure. 1) Edit the CONFIG.SYS file, placing the word REM at the beginning of the line containing COUNTRY.SYS. 2) Reboot the machine. 3) Run SETUP again. 4) After SETUP is complete, edit the CONFIG.SYS file to remove the REM from the line edited in (1). 5) Reboot the machine. NOTE: The only further concern should be when the above SDEFRAG /GP option is taken whereas the COUNTRY.SYS line would need to be remarked again during the SDEFRAG operation. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Copyright 1993, Stac Electronics
