According to Adaptec, all Adaptec AT hard disk controllers use interrupts 60 to 67h and have a ROM at C8000 to CBFFF or alternately at CC000 to CFFFF. These controllers will conflict with Expanded Memory Managers such as ILIM386.SYS unless you install the driver "ADAPTEC.SYS" between the Inboard driver and ILIM386.SYS in the CONFIG.SYS file. This file is available via modem from the Adaptec BBS at: (408) 945-7727. ADAPTEC SCSI CONTROLLER Customers report limited compatibility with these SCSI controllers. The Adaptec SCSI controller has limited compatibility with the Inboard 386. The ILIM386 (Inboard 386's expanded memory software) SWAP parameter cannot be used because the Adaptec board has its own DMA controller that assumes the logical addresses equal the physical addresses. This is not true when SWAP is activated. To work with ILIM386, the AH1540.SYS driver from Adaptec must be loaded before ILIM386. The AH1540.SYS command line must contain the following parameters: /V386 /B=nnn (where nnn = DMA buffer size) Refer to Adaptec documentation for more information. BERNOULLI 10+10 This board is compatible with the Inboard 386. Intel has tested the 10+10 it works work fine. NOTE: I/O address conflicts can occur between Bernoulli Box controllers and the Inboard 386. If the Bernoulli Box fails after you install the Inboard 386, try changing the I/O address of the Bernoulli controller board. BERNOULLI 20+20 This board is compatible with the Inboard 386. Intel has tested the 20+20 it works work fine. NOTE: I/O address conflicts can occur between Bernoulli Box controllers and the Inboard 386. If the Bernoulli Box fails after you install the Inboard 386, try changing the I/O address of the Bernoulli controller board. PLUS HARDCARD 20 The limited compatibility of this board depends on its BIOS. Some versions of the BIOS cause problems when an Expanded Memory Manager, such as ILIM386, is present. If you're having trouble using a Hardcard 20 with Inboard 386, check the serial number of the Hardcard. If the serial number includes the characters "CB" or "CF," the problem is probably with the Hardcard BIOS and Plus Development would need to be contacted for a BIOS Upgrade. PLUS HARDCARD 40 Intel has tested this product and found it to be compatible. However, Intel has received customer reports of problems. Customers report that at one point some Plus Hardcard 40 that came in boxes labeled "now compatible with PS/2 Model 30", these boards may have a version of the BIOS that can cause problems when an Expanded Memory Manager, such as ILIM386, is present. If you're having trouble using a Hardcard 40 with the Inboard 386, check the serial number of the Hardcard. If the serial number includes the characters "CB" or "CF," the problem is probably with the Hardcard BIOS, in which case it would be necessary to contact Plus Development for a BIOS upgrade. WESTERN DIGITAL ESDI CONTROLLER Intel tested Model WD1007-WAH and found it to be compatible with the Inboard 386. Tech Note: This board uses the default address of CC00-CEFF, with an alternate address of C800-CBFF, which may be of concern if Expanded Memory is being provided in that system. IBM 3278/79 Customers report that Ctrl-Alt-Del and speed-change hot keys didn't work after the IBM 3278/79 software was installed in systems with the Inboard 386 installed. IBM 5250 This board is compatible with Inboard 386. However, don't use hot-key speed switching under emulation; it will lock up the computer. Use the ISPEEDAT command instead. IBM AT370 OPTION BOARD Customers report the Inboard 386 is incompatible with the AT370 board. The computer won't boot with this board present. This board can provide system memory from 512K bytes to 640K bytes and has a proprietary processor that allows System 370 emulation. CONNECTION COPROCESSOR Intel has tested the Connection Coprocessor with the Inboard 386, and they are fully compatible. SATISFAXTION CLASSIC Intel has tested the SatisFAXtion Classic with the Inboard 386, and they are fully compatible. KEYTRONIC KB101 PLUS KEYBOARD Customers report that this keyboard is incompatible with Inboard 386. For the Inboard 386 to work, the user had to unplug the keyboard and plug it back in after power-on. AST EEMS BOARDS AST EEMS Boards can't be used to page down to 256K bytes with the Inboard 386 in the computer. If this is done, the Inboard 386's cache will cache the EEMS paged memory, and problems will occur. Instead, set the AST board for extended memory and use ILIM386.SYS. ABOVE BOARD PLUS & PLUS I/O These boards are compatible with Inboard 386. To use expanded memory, you must have EMM versions 3.5 or higher. You can get the most recent version of EMM from Intel's Bulletin Board System. You can use only one expanded memory manager at a time. You cannot use ILIM386 and EMM together. If you want to use the Above Board with ILIM386, you must configure the Above Board for extended memory. Do not run SETBOARD, SOFTSET, TESTAB, or INSTALL with ILIM386 installed. ABOVE BOARD PLUS 8 AND PLUS 8 I/O These boards are compatible with the Inboard 386. To use expanded memory, you must have EMM versions 4.0 Revision D or higher. You can get the most recent version of EMM from Intel's Bulletin Board System. You can use only one expanded memory manager at a time. You cannot use ILIM386 and EMM together. If you want to use the Above Board with ILIM386, you must configure the Above Board for extended memory. Do not run SETBOARD, SOFTSET, or TESTAB, with ILIM386 installed. MATCHED MEMORY CLASSIC These memory boards are compatible with the Inboard 386. To use expanded memory, you must have EMM versions 4.0 Revision E or higher. ABOVE BOARD 286 AND PS/286 These boards are compatible with Inboard 386. To use expanded memory, you must have EMM versions 3.5 or higher. You can get the most recent version of EMM from Intel's Bulletin Board System. You can use only one expanded memory manager at a time. You cannot use ILIM386 and EMM together. ABOVE BOARD PC AND PS/PC These memory boards are incompatible with the Inboard 386. The Above Board PC and PS/PC will only work in 8088/86 systems and the Inboard 386 is incompatible with those systems. ABOVE BOARD AT AND PS/AT These boards are compatible with Inboard 386. To use expanded memory, you must have EMM version 3.5 or higher. You can get the most recent version of EMM from Intel's Bulletin Board System. You can use only one expanded memory manager at a time. You cannot use ILIM386 and EMM together. If you want to use the Above Board with ILIM386, you must configure the Above Board for extended memory. Do not run SOFTSET, SETUPAT, TESTAB, or INSTALL with ILIM386 installed. If you have an Above Board AT set up to use 64K-bit chips to backfill conventional memory, and you want to use Inboard 386 to supply conventional memory from 256K bytes to 640K bytes, you must replace the 64K-bit chips with 256K-bit chips. Leaving in the 64k-bit chips causes EMM to return Msg. 7, "Some of the memory is not working." EMERALD TAPE BACKUP With the Inboard 386 installed, a back-up will take twice as long. This is normal for this tape back-up unit. EVEREX STREAM-60 Intel has tested this unit in IBM, Tandy, and COMPAQ computers. It is compatible and worked for hard drive file back-ups. MAYNARD MAYNSTREAM Intel has tested this unit in IBM, Tandy, and COMPAQ computers. It is compatible worked fine for hard drive file back-ups. SYSGEN SMART QIC Intel has tested this unit in IBM, Tandy, and COMPAQ computers. It worked fine for hard drive file back-ups. In COMPAQs, the computer locked up in speeds 1, 2, and 4. As of 12/19/89 Sysgen says that they are incompatible with 386 memory managers, such as ILIM386 and QEMM, and Desqview. Reboot the system without 386 memory managers to backup and restore.
