Overlapping IRQs, overlapping Serial Ports, Clock Drivers, and unreliable High Density Floppy Controllers have all been known to interfere with the installation process. To install Windows 3.0 for the InBoard 386/PC, users should strip their systems to a 360K FD Controller, a HD Controller, the video card, and the InBoard 386/PC. The CONFIG.SYS should contain just DEVICE=INBRDPC.SYS, files and buffers. The AUTOEXEC.BAT should contain just PATH and PROMPT. The user can re-build the system after installing Windows 3.0 for the InBoard 386/PC. CLOCK DRIVERS Clock drivers have been found to interfere with the installation of Windows 3.0 for the InBoard 386/PC. Remove the clock driver from the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS and remove the board that supplies the clock for the duration of the installation procedure. Once Windows comes up in the ENHANCED mode, the clock board and drivers can be re-installed. HIGH DENSITY FLOPPY CONTROLLERS Many High Density Floppy Controllers will interfere with the Installation procedure. These controllers can have a ROM BIOS that conflicts with the InBoard 386/PC. Remove these controllers for the duration of the installation process. They can be replaced once the installation is successful. An alternative would be to have the customer copy all the Windows diskettes into a subdirectory on the hard drive and try running SETUP from there. INSTALLATION LOCKS ON DISK 4 When the installation process reaches Disk 4, the machine begins running Windows 3.0 in the REAL mode. If the machine locks at this point, the first step is to remove ALL boards not essential to the boot process (leave only the Video card, the Hard and Floppy Disk controllers, and the InBoard 386/PC), strip the AUTOEXEC.BAT to just PATH and PROMPT, and strip the CONFIG.SYS to just INBRDPC.SYS and FILES and BUFFERS. This can also be caused by an old video card which cannot do graphics. EPSON DRIVERS ARE NOT ON DISK 14 The first copies of Windows 3.0 for the InBoard 386/PC had the labels of disks 14 and 15 reversed. The drivers for the Epson printers ended up on the disk labeled 15 instead of 14. This issue has been corrected. Windows 3.0 for the InBoard 386/PC is based on Windows 3.0a, so users with a hard drive formatted with DMDRVR.BIN must repartition their hard drive with FDISK (DOS 3.3) or reformat their hard drive with a version of DOS that supports a greater than 32Mb partition (DOS 4.01 or greater). CLONE SUPER VGA DRIVERS Some clone Windows 3.0 drivers for Super VGA will not load. This is true in i386-based machines as well as Inboard 386/PC systems. This is an issue with the VGA card manufacturer and a broken driver. The Super VGA drivers for Orchid, Paradise, and Genoa cards work just fine. GENOA SUPER VGA DRIVER The Super VGA driver for the Genoa Super VGA card works just fine with Windows 3.0 for the Inboard 386/PC. ORCHID SUPER VGA DRIVER The Super VGA driver for the Orchid Super VGA card works just fine with Windows 3.0 for the Inboard 386/PC. PARADISE SUPER VGA DRIVER The Super VGA driver for the Paradise Super VGA card works just fine with Windows 3.0 for the Inboard 386/PC.
