Inboard 386/PC piggyback options can provide extended memory since they don't access the memory across an 8bit bus, but are directly attached to the Inboard 386/PC utilizing a 32bit bus. The InBoard 386/PC can work faster and do more if a piggyback memory card is attached to it (a 4M-byte piggy can be ordered directly from Intel by following the instructions in FaxBACK document 9012). The piggy will increase the amount of Extended memory and allow the use of 80386 control programs like QEMM386 (from Quarterdeck) and 386ToTheMAX (from Qualitas). AST 6-PACK AND 6-PACK PLUS Intel has tested these products with the Inboard 386/PC, and they are compatible. Tech Notes: You must disable any 6-Pack+ memory being used for conventional memory because Inboard 386/PC supplies all conventional memory for the computer. To disable the memory on 6-Pack+ boards, set switches 4, 5, and 6 to off. (The 6-Pack+ ports and clock still function when its memory is disabled.) Also disable parity on the 6- Pack+ by setting switch 8 off. AST 6 PACK PREMIUM Intel has Customer reports that this board is compatible with the Inboard 386/PC but you must disable conventional memory on the 6 Pack Premium. To disable conventional memory provided by the 6 Pack Premium set switches: 1 off 2 on 3 off 4 on AST RAMPAGE Intel has tested this product with the Inboard 386/PC and they are compatible. AST MEGAPLUS You must disable any Megaplus memory used for conventional memory because Inboard 386/PC supplies all conventional memory for the computer. The switch settings that disable memory on the Megaplus board are as follows: 1 - OFF 5 - ON 2 - ON 6 - OFF 3 - OFF 7 - OFF 4 - ON 8 - OFF AST MEGAPLUS 2 We have one customer report that this board is incompatible with the Inboard 386/PC because the conventional memory on the MegaPlus 2 board can't be disabled. The user had to remove the MegaPlus board to install the Inboard 386/PC. INTEL MEMORY BOARD NOTES Inboard 386/PC is compatible with the following Intel Memory boards: Above Board PC & PS/PC Above Board 286 & PS/286 Above Board Plus & Plus I/O Above Board Plus 8 & Plus 8 I/O Matched Memory Classic The Inboard 386/PC is NOT compatible with Micro Channel Above Boards or the Above Board AT and PS/AT because these memory boards won't work in an 8088-based computer with an 8-bit data bus. All other Above Boards are compatible as long as the Above Board is supplying only expanded memory and the Inboard 386/PC isn't supplying expanded memory. Only one expanded memory manager can be active in a computer at a time. Because the Inboard 386/PC supplies all of its own conventional memory, you must disable any conventional memory the Above Board supplies. You can't use Above Boards to supply extended memory in computers with an Inboard 386/PC because extended memory requires a 16-bit path to the CPU, which can't happen across an 8-bit data bus. The only way to use extended memory is by adding the Inboard 386/PC Piggyback Option. TECMAR CAPTAIN BOARD This board has limited compatibility with Inboard 386/PC. The clock won't work (date and time are set to 00000) when the Inboard 386/PC is set to Speed 4. It will be necessary to start the Inboard 386/PC in Speed 1, and then switch it to Speed 4 after the clock driver has been installed.
