IBM PROFESSIONAL EDITOR Customers report this program has a maximum document size of 64K bytes, and it stores its data in the same 64K-byte area that Inboard 386/PC uses for its device drivers and ICACHE. Therefore, when ICACHE and the Inboard 386/PC drivers are loaded, the document size is limited to about 9K bytes. If you remove ICACHE, document size increases to about 30K bytes. (Don't remove the Inboard 386/PC drivers.) IBM APL2/PC VERSION 1.0 Customers report this program is incompatible with Inboard 386/PC. Floating point calculations always result in 1. The customer was told by IBM that this problem will be corrected in the next release of the APL2/PC software. INFORMIX-4GL Customers report that this program is incompatible with the Inboard 386/PC. It apparently uses hardware functions specific to the IBM PC AT that Inboard 386/PC can't support. LOTUS 1-2-3 RELEASE 3.0 AND ILIM386 VERSION 4.04 Lotus release 3.0 and ILIM386.SYS version 4.04 are incompatible; you must use ILIM386 version 4.07. Although ILIM386.SYS version 4.04 was designed to conform with software using the Virtual Control Program Interface (VCPI) specification, a problem with the ILIM VCPI implementation causes Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3 to hang with the message: "DOS 123 ERROR:Protected mode requires VCPI within virtual 8086". Inboard 386/PC needs the Piggyback Memory option for the 384K bytes of extended memory 1-2-3 Release 3.0 requires. LOTUS 1-2-3RELEASE 3.0 AND ILIM386 VERSION 4.07 Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3.0 and ILIM386 Version 4.07 Release 3.0 is compatible with ILIM386 version 4.07. If Inboard 386/PC has no piggyback memory, you must remove the ILIM386.SYS line from the CONFIG.SYS file for Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3 to load. If Inboard 386/PC has more than 1M byte of extended memory and you have programs other than 1-2-3 that need expanded memory, use the EXT=0 parameter on the iLIM386.SYS command line. Otherwise, remove the parameter. If you want to reserve extended memory for ICACHE, use the EXT=x parameter, with x set to the size of the cache. LOTUS 1-2-3 RELEASE 3.0 - MEMORY MANAGEMENT This section explains how to structure files for minimum memory use and how to regain memory. This information comes from the Memory Management appendix in Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3.0 documentation. The minimum memory requirement for release 3.0 is 640K bytes conventional, 384K bytes extended memory. The suggested memory amounts are 640K bytes conventional, 1M byte extended, and additional as expanded. Make sure the extended memory hasn't been allocated to other programs such as disk caches. Check CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT if you're unsure. Because most DOS applications use extended, not expanded, memory, configure as much expanded as needed for these applications. When configured for both kinds of memory, the 1-2-3 program is stored in extended and data is stored in expanded memory. When expanded memory is full, 1-2-3 places any additional data in extended. If you have a 386-based computer with an Expanded Memory Emulation Program, such as ILIM386 or QEMM386, you should convert as much extended memory as possible to expanded. 1-2-3 can access only the memory that the emulation program converts to expanded. 1-2-3 won't be able to use extended memory after the emulation program has loaded. You usually set the amount of memory to be converted with a statement in your CONFIG.SYS file. NOTE: 1-2-3 works with only those EMS Emulators that support the Virtual Control Program Interface (VCPI). Among those that support VCPI are 386 MAX version 4.07 and later, Quarterdeck Expanded Memory Manager (QEMM) version 4.2 and later, and COMPAQ Expanded Memory Manager (CEMM). LOTUS 1-2-3 RELEASE 2.0 This version of Lotus uses a nonstandard method of detecting the presence of a math coprocessor, and this can cause the software to erroneously report that you have a math coprocessor. It can also produce an error when a number is inserted in a cell. This error can occur in any computer, even one without Inboard 386/PC. If you don't think you have a math coprocessor in your computer but 1- 2-3 indicates one is present, first verify that 8087 is present. If there is no math coprocessor, either upgrade to 1-2-3 Release 2.01 (or higher) or install an an i387 DX. NOTE: This is not an Inboard 386/PC problem. However, the Inboard 386/PC may stress the computer just enough to expose the false assumption that 1-2-3 makes to determine math coprocessor presence. LOTUS 1-2-3 RELEASE 2.01 Intel has tested this version of Lotus 1-2-3 with the Inboard 386/PC and they are compatible.
