Customers report that this system has a standard 8MHz data bus and the discontinued Above Board AT and PS/AT and Above Board 286 are also compatible. If an AST Extended Memory board is being used, it must be completely filled, (4Mb), before any EXTENDED memory can be added by any other memory board. AT&T 386 EWGS *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Tech Notes: This is an 80386-based system that has an option ROM at address DE000 that apparently cannot be moved. If an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic board is being used to supply expanded memory, be sure the page frame does not overlap the option ROM address. AT&T 386SX WGS *CUSTOMER REPORT* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classics in this system. Tech Notes: This system apparently has 384K reserved for system use. The reported system had 2Mb on the system board and it was necessary to set the Above Board extended memory starting address to 2048K. AT&T 60-386 *CUSTOMER REPORT* of compatibility with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Tech Notes: This is 16MHz 80386SX-based system. There is 1Mb on the system board, 640K conventional and 384K of "DEDICATED MEMORY". The Dedicated Memory can be set up as Shadow RAM but doesn't have to be. When setting up an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic board for extended memory, make sure the Dedicated Memory is set up for shadow RAM and that RECLAIMED MEMORY is set to ZERO. At this point, run SETBOARD and set the extended memory starting address to 1024K. COMPAQ COMPAQ DESKPRO 386/16 Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Also compatible with discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, AT and PS/AT. Tech Notes: System has 1Mb of memory onboard. It is configured as 640K conventional, 256K extended, and 128K reserved for system use. It also has sockets for an additional 1Mb of extended memory, (address 1.0M to 2.0M), which should be filled before using an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic for additional extended memory. The 256K of Compaq extended memory, (from the first 1Mb), will be automatically addressed AFTER other extended memory in the system. This allows an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic to have an even starting address boundary, (i.e. 2.0M). System comes with an expanded memory emulator called CEMM that makes the system's extended memory look like expanded memory to programs like Lotus 123 Rel 2.x. You cannot use both Compaq's CEMM and EMM, (Intel's expanded memory manager), at the same time. You must either configure the Above Board or Matched Memory Classic for expanded memory and use EMM only, or you must configure the board for extended memory and use CEMM, (or some third party 386-control program). COMPAQ DESKPRO 386/20 Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Intel has also tested the discontinued Above Board 286 & PS/286 in this system and they worked fine. Customers have reported that the Above Board AT and PS/AT do not work reliably. This computer operates an 8MHz bus. COMPAQ PORTABLE 386/20 LIMITED COMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. In order to use an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic in this system, the system must have 2Mb of memory on the motherboard and the Above Board or Matched Memory Classic must be configured as extended memory. Details: The Compaq Portable 386 comes with 1Mb, which is set up as 640K conventional, 128K to "shadow" the ROMs, and 256K as "additional built-in user memory." This last 256K is extended memory, but it is placed just below the 16Mb boundary so normal programs, (excepting CEMM), cannot find it. If an Above board or Matched Memory classic is installed while the motherboard only has 1Mb, it will not work. TESTAB will show all chips bad, EMM will not find any expanded memory to manage, and extended memory will not show up. If the 1Mb Compaq upgrade, (two proprietory-looking 512K SIMMs), is installed, then any extended memory on an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic will work fine. The jumpers in the Compaq should remain set on 2Mb regardless of the amount of memory on the Above Board or Matched Memory Classic COMPAQ 386/S (80386SX MACHINE) Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. The discontinued Above Board 286 PS/286 are also compatible. Tech Notes: This is a 16MHZ 80386SX-based system. It has 1Mb of memory on the system board. Intel recommends running SETBOARD for a 10MHz bus speed when configuring an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic. The system has a special slot for a Compaq proprietary memory board. If this board is installed, it must be fully populated before any other memory board can supply EXTENDED memory. If the Compaq memory board is not installed and extended memory is desired, set the Above Board or Matched Memory Classic extended memory start address to 1024K, (1Mb). The 384K of motherboard extended memory re-maps itself to where the Above Board or Matched Memory classic extended memory ends. If you should ever need to know the motherboard switch settings: remove the cover and there's a diagram on the side of the chassis. COMPAQ 386/N (386SX MACHINE) Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Tech notes: This is an 80386SX-based system with 640K conventional, 384K expanded built in. To provide extended memory using an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic, choose an extended memory starting address of 1024K in SETBOARD. Be sure Compaq's CEMM memory manager is not loading if using an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic as expanded memory. System specs: System has two full-length 16-bit expansion slots and one dedicated Compaq proprietary memory slot. VGA is built in. Two SIMM sockets on system board that can take 1, 2, or 4Mb SIMMs. Compatible with 387SX-16 or 387SX-20 match coprocessors. Dip switch setting required. Switch block should be clearly marked and accessible. COMPUADD 386-25 *CUSTOMER REPORT* of compatibility with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. If an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic is being used to provide exPANded memory in this system, the Compuadd VGA ROM caching feature must be turned off or the EMM.SYS driver will report "All memory is either conventional or extended, cannot find any expanded memory to manage." DELL 310 *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 80386-based system is compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Tech Notes: Shadow RAM may cause problems with expanded memory. Shadow RAM can be eliminated by disabling 'Fast ROM' and 'Fast Video' in the Dell SETUP program. Keyboard controllers with versions lower than #20575 may also cause EMM problems. Call Dell Tech support for a replacement. There is also an error in some revisions of the Dell 310 manual. The Dell manual states that the extended memory start address for an add-in memory board (like an Above Board) IF the Dell 310 is fully populated to 8M- bytes, is 8576. In all actuality, the starting address if there is already 8M-bytes on the Dell motherboard is 8192 (there is 384K-bytes of cache on the motherboard). DELL 325D (386/25) *CUSTOMER REPORT* of INCOMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Apparently all extended memory must be provided by the motherboard. There is room on the motherboard to provide 16 Megabytes of memory, (using 1Mb SIMMs), and any additional memory would need to be provided through their proprietary 32-bit daughterboard. EPSON 386/20 Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Must run MANUAL SETUP in SETBOARD and specify a 10MHz bus or the system will not recognize any Above Board or Matched Memory Classic memory. Tech notes: This system comes with 1Mb on a proprietary 32-bit board with SIMM sockets to expand up to 4Mb using 256K SIMMs, or 16Mb using 1Mb SIMMs. Of the initial 1Mb, 640K is conventional and 384K is reserved for system use so an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic can start supplying EXTENDED memory at the 1.0Mb address, (1024K). Behind a door on the front panel is a switch that sets the computers speed at either 8MHz or 20MHz. There's also a reset button, speaker volume control & video select switch there. Like an AT, it also has a keyboard security lock (make sure it's unlocked or no input gets through from the keyboard!). The system seems to have a keyboard problem similar to the Wyse, (keystrokes come out "shifted" to uppercase even though you don't hold down the shift key), though not as bad. EVEREX EVEREX 386-20 2800 SERIES *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Also have reports that the discontinued Above Board 286 and PS/286 are also compatible. This is an 80386-based system with a BUS SPEED of 8MHz. EVEREX SYSTEM 3000 MODEL A (386-16) *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Tech Notes: System bus speed is 8MHz. To prevent floppy/tape-backup problems on some machines, the customer MUST obtain a PAL CHIP UPGRADE KIT (ask for part# ICP-00102-03) from Everex's Customer Service Department. (This chip would replace U69 on their mother board and is currently available at no charge.) EVEREX 3000C *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. The Everex 3000C is a 16MHz 80386SX-based computer. EVEREX 3000D *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. The Everex 3000D is a 20MHz 80386-20 based computer. EVEREX 3000I *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. The Everex 3000I is a 25MHz 80386-25 based computer. FALCON (FTC) 386 *CUSTOMER REPORT* of INCOMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Apparently this system has a 0 wait state bus with no way to set it to 1 wait state. A system running at 0 wait states violates the IBM specification of 1 wait state and is not fully IBM compatible. Intel Above Boards require the IBM standard of 1 wait state. GATEWAY 386 WITH MICRONICS 386 CACHE 5.0 MOTHERBOARD *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of INCOMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic in Gateway 386 computers built around the Micronics CACHE 5.0 motherboards. This is a Zero Wait state motherboard with no way to conform with the IBM Standard of One Wait State in the Data Bus. According to Micronics Technical Support the only way to add extended memory to this computer is on a proprietary Micronics/Gateway daughterboard. H/P VECTRA 486 *COSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic as extended memory. This system has a shadow RAM which has been reported to conflict with an exPANded memory page frame. It is unknown whether the shadow RAM can be disabled or not. Tech Notes: This system has an 8MHz data bus and has a memory board capable of holding up to 64Mb. HYUNDAI 386T *CUSTOMER REPORT* of INCOMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. This computer runs its bus at a non-IBM-compatible 0 wait states, with no way to set it to the IBM-compatible 1 wait state. A system running at 0 wait states violates the IBM specification of 1 wait state and is not fully IBM compatible. Intel classic bus memory boards require the IBM standard of 1 wait state. INTEL INTEL 301 {INTEL 386 MOTHERBOARD} Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic boards, also with the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, AT, and PS/AT. This computer operates an 8MHz bus speed. Factory setting has motherboard jumpers set for the 2Meg extended memory board that OMS (in Hillsboro) makes. It's a 32-bit board. To use an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic with the Intel 301 2MB 32- bit board as extended memory, set the Intel 301 system board jumpers as follows: E29-E30, E32-E34, E35-E36. To use Above Boards or Matched Memory Classics as extended memory WITHOUT other boards in the system set jumpers on system board to connect pins E35 & 36; E34 & 32; E28 & 30. This sets motherboard for 512K and no 32-bit boards. Install AB in 16-bit slot. Backfilling conventional memory from 512 to 640 will degrade system performance significantly. Expanded and extended memory work fine. INTEL 302 {INTEL 386 MOTHERBOARD} Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic boards, also compatible with the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, AT, & PS/AT.
