It cannot be installed along with the Above Board's EMM.SYS. EMM will appear to install then CHKMEM will show 0K expanded memory. Remove the VEM.SYS from the Config.sys. ADVANCED REVELATION FIELD REPORT of compatibility with Above Boards providing extended memory in 80386-based computers. This software package recommends that it be operated from an 80386-based system with QEMM converting EXTended memory into EXPanded memory. On 80286-based systems this software requires either mapping EMM into regions that violate the memory map or using conventional memory for a page frame (This software requires two 64k overflow buffers and one 16k expanded window to be placed in reserved memory under the control of a memory manager IN ADDITION to the 64k page frame which the memory manager needs to access expanded memory). ALPHAWORKS ALPHA SOFTWARE CORP Uses expanded memory for code swapping and data storage. Information ph: 617-229-2924 ALSYS ALSYS is an ADA compiler for the AT. It requires the 80287. Company ph: (617) 890-0030 ATNX AND PC SLAVE BOARD ATNX software uses INT 67 and is incompatible with all Expanded Memory. One customer reported this system is software switchable to interrupt 47. NOTE: If customer wants to use the cache software shipped with the ATNX board the AB needs to use the C000 address. This software is provided by Alloy, Inc. (617)875-6100. AUTOCAD AUTOCAD & THE HP VECTRA Customers report: In the HP Vectra, Autocad 2.6 locks up soon after boot if EMM is installed. Hewlett Packard has a fix for this problem. They will send a software patch to Vectra customers. Autocad 2.53 works fine on the HP Vectra. A customer with 5 HP Vectra's, all with Above Board ATs and Autocad 2.52, reported that he had no problems. AUTOCAD VER 2.5 Autocad by Autodesk: This release of Autocad supports expanded and extended memory for I/O paging. This dramatically improves Autocad performance. Autodesk recommends users set the AB for EXTENDED memory with this version of Autocad. AUTOCAD - GENERAL NOTES There are no reported incompatibilties between current versions of Autocad and Above Boards. BASIC COMPILERS AND QUIKBUF SYMPTOM: Printer stops printing when xxxxx program is loaded. CAUSE: Several BASIC compilers appear to use the same software interrupts used by early versions of the optional Quikbuf print buffer program. The printer will appear to be locked up until the user gets out of the BASIC program. This is true for compiled basic programs (EXE files) as well. MS BASIC and PC BASIC both exhibit this phenomena. Customers report the latest version of Quikbuf solves the problem. SOLUTION: TRY OUR LATEST VERSION OF QUIKBUF. BORLAND TURBO C VER 2.0 This version of the Turbo C programming editor will hang if the user has expanded memory and shell's to DOS, then runs a program that uses expanded memory and then returns back to the editor. General Notes: This version supports EMS memory for an edit buffer and supports Intel Math CoProcessors. For more information on this product contact Borland (In the United States Borland can be reached at ph: 800-543-7543). BORLAND TURBO PASCAL VER 5.0 The programming editor will hang if the user has expanded memory and shell's to DOS, then runs a program that uses expanded memory and then returns back to the editor. CONSTRUCTION ACCOUNTING *FIELD REPORTS* of coexistence with Above Boards and expanded memory. We have no notes if it actually takes advantage of expanded memory however. Tech Notes: There is a keycard (software protection card) associated with this software package that can cause TESTAB to show patterns of bad chips. Everything else works fine. If they want to run TESTAB to verify the memory chips on the Above Board are functioning correctly they will need to remove the Keycard for the test. CLIPPER We've found that Clipper uses EMS memory, but in some cases it is necessary to specify a range Clipper can use that won't conflict with the EMS page frame. The following line in the AUTOEXEC.BAT in 80286-based computers has cleared up apparent conflicts: SET CLIPPER E000 Clipper tries to use EMS to store index buffers. Unfortunately, if the environment isn't configured absolutely correctly it could corrupt RAM disks, leading to trashed data. Clipper uses Intel Math CoProcessors to speed up all floating point operations. DBASE III & III+ Can coexist with Above Boards, but does not take advantage of expanded or extended memory. Tech Notes: The dBASE III and III+ print commands bypass the Above Board's print buffer (QUIKBUF). When printing from dBASE III or III+, you won't regain screen control until just a few seconds before your document finishes printing. DBase III+ and IV use Intel Math CoProcessors for mathematical operations. The Ashton- Tate information ph: 800-437-4329. DBASE IV dBASE IV uses conventional memory but not extended or expanded. Call Ashton-Tate for more information. The number is 800-437-4329. DESQVIEW DESQVIEW VER 1.02 This is a very old version of Desqview which was shipped with AST 6-PAK and ADVANTAGE boards and can't recognize EMS memory (neither Intel's nor AST's). The program locks up if more than one program tries to use expanded memory. You need DESQView Version 1.20 to use an Above Board. DESQVIEW VER 1.10 AND 1.11 This version only shipped with AST 6-PAK, 6-PAK PREMIUM, ADVANTAGE, and RAMpage boards. It runs only if one of these AST boards is installed. You need DESQView Version 1.20 to use an Above Board. DESQVIEW VER 1.20 This version is fully compatible with Lotus-Intel-Microsoft expanded memory and Above boards. If you want to do multitasking,(instead of task-swapping), you need the Above Board Plus or Above Board Plus 8. You must also be able to disable conventional memory on the system board, have the Above Board replace the motherboard memory that was disabled, and use the MC (Mappable Conventional memory) parameter in the EMM.SYS command in the CONFIG.SYS file. The way Desqview was designed, the more motherboard memory that can be replaced in this fashion, the larger the area available for multitasking. DESQVIEW VER 2.0 This is the first version of DESQview to use LIM 4.0 expanded memory for concurrent multitasking. It requires mappable conventional memory (disabling some of the memory on the motherboard, and then having an Above Board Plus or Plus 8 replace that memory) to do concurrent multitasking in expanded memory. If you invoke DESQview with XDV.COM, it will use any extra (above the 64K- byte page frame) mapped pages in the C000-EFFF address range to load itself. Generally, this is a better approach than using the EMM.SYS RD parameter (relocates the EMM driver into reserved memory). DESQVIEW 386 This is a combination of DESQview 2.X and QEMM. It is compatible with Above Boards providing extended memory. EMM allows DESQview to virtualize screens, I/O ports, etc. DESQview works better with QEMM than any other 80386 control program. DIAGRAPH AND CLOCK.SYS Diagraph graphics software is incompatible with many DOS device drivers. If you have problems with Diagraph Version 3.4 locking up with the Above Board PS/PC clock, contact Intel Customer Support for software (the ABCLOCK diskette) which could correct the problem. Computer Support Corporation (manufacturer of Diagraph), reports Diagraph runs four to five times faster with an Intel Math CoProcessor. Computer Support Corporation's number is (214) 661-8960. DISK CACHING - GENERAL NOTES If you have an expanded memory disk cache installed and if you run our old INSTALL program (it was replaced by SOFTSET which doesn't have this problem), you will corrupt your harddisk File Allocation Table. Our Install program checked to see what expanded memory was available, and in so doing it was possible that a disk cache using expanded memory could become corrupted, and corrupt the File Allocation Table (FAT) on a hard disk. If you have installed disk caching software (such as Microsoft Smartdrive or IBM disk cache) on your computer's hard disk, disable the disk cache software before running INSTALL. DOUBLE DOS Early versions of this program don't use expanded memory directly, but software that supports expanded memory can use it in a Double DOS partition. EASYWRITER 2 This software doesn't work with any expanded memory manager because it uses the same interrupt as EMM (INT 67). Note: In July of 1986 we heard rumors that an Easywriter 2 upgrade that doesn't use INT 67 was being developed, but haven't heard if it's actually released. MICROSOFT EXCEL Intel tested this program and it is compatible with Above Boards. Microsoft Excel uses expanded memory for data storage/code swap/buffer area/RAM. It requires EMM 4.0. Excel runs faster with Intel Math CoProcessors. Microsoft information ph: 800-426-9400.
