This system has 640K conventional and 384K extended memory on the motherboard and comes with an 8-bit EGA board. Tech Notes: One customer reported video garbage with their Above Board I/O base address set to 208. Changing the I/O address to 258 by running SETBOARD in another system fixed the problem. CORDATA 4200 (DESKTOP MODEL) *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 80286-based system is compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Customer reports and a report from Cordata say that the Above Board AT and PS/AT are INCOMPATIBLE. CORDATA AT PORTABLE We currently have no information about compatibility with this system and current Above Boards or Matched Memory Classic. However, we do have *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that the Cordata AT Portable is INCOMPATIBLE with the Above Board AT & PS/AT for expanded memory. The Above Board AT & PS/AT could be used for extended memory in this system. CORONA DATA 286 *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of INCOMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. This system has a 0 wait state data bus with NO provisions to configure it for 1 wait state. A system running at 0 wait states violates the IBM specification of 1 wait state and is not fully IBM compatible. Intel classic bus memory boards require the IBM standard of 1 wait state The symptom that customers reported was stray characters appearing on the screen when the Above Board was providing memory. DATAFOX (AT CLONE) *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 6/10MHz 80286-based system is compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. We also have reports that the discontinued Above Board AT & PS/AT worked in this system when the system was set to operate at 6MHz. This system has a jumper on the motherboard to select either a non-IBM AT standard 0 wait state data bus speed or the IBM AT standard 1 wait state data bus speed. This Jumper must be set for 1 wait state for an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic to function properly since these boards adhere to the IBM standard of 1 wait state. DEC VAXMATE *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of LIMITED COMPATIBILITY with Above Boards. The DEC VAXMATE without an expansion chassis has no slots. You must have the DEC VAXMATE expansion chassis to use an Above Board or Matched Memory classic. The DEC Vaxmate motherboard memory is divided as 640K base and 384K extended. We have reports that an Above Board 286 worked fine as expanded memory but would not work as extended memory. CHKMEM would not recognize the 384K of extended memory on the motherboard. We have no direct compatibility information on this system with our current Above Boards or Matched Memory Classic. DELL 220 *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 80286-based system is compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. The Dell 220 runs the processor at 20MHz but runs the data bus at 8MHz. The motherboard can supply expanded memory which must be disabled before an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic can provide expanded memory. To disable the motherboard expanded memory you need to download a program called "EMSOFF.COM" from Dell's BBS. DELL 200 *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. System runs at 12MHz but if odd errors occur, try running SETBOARD for 8MHz. In the case of the PC's Limited 286/12MHz, run SETBOARD for 12MHz. Many of these systems are showing up in customers' hands with 16-bit VGA boards which need to be set to 8-bit mode if an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic is being used to provide any exPANded memory. This is not necessary if the Above Board or Matched Memory Classic is providing only extended memory. In some cases it is necessary to add the parameter EXPF=D000 to the EMM.SYS command line. Must be using the Classic Bus EMM ver 4.0 rev C (4/89) or later. DS SQUARED *CUSTOMER REPORT* of LIMITED COMPATIBILITY with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. This is a 286-based system running at 10MHz CPU speed. Probably not compatible with the discontinued Above Board AT and PS/AT due to the fast bus speed. From a customer report, the Above Board, (or Matched Memory Classic), can provide exTENed memory in this computer without any problems. However, if the Intel EMM.SYS driver tries to load, the computer locks up. Intel is unable to determine the conflict. Apparently there was either an expanded memory manager in ROM on the motherboard that our driver was conflicting with, or some other conflict with the motherboard. DTK 286 MOTHERBOARDS We have *CONFLICTING CUSTOMER REPORTS* about compatibility with current Above Boards and the Matched Memory Classic in DTK 286 computers. If experiencing intermittent PARITY CHECK 2 errors or EMM.SYS errors at boot, run SETBOARD again and specify a 6/8MHz bus. Even though this system runs at 10MHz, running SETBOARD for a 6/8MHz bus appears to be the only way to get it to work according to customer reports. We have also received fairly consistent reports that these system boards use I/O port address 208. Choose an I/O address other than 208 when setting up an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic! We have one *CUSTOMER REPORT* of INCOMPATIBILITY with a DTK 286 having 1Mb on the system board. The system would only recognize the first 64Kb of Above Board memory. This particular system board had speed settings for 10MHz/0 wait states, or 6MHz/1 wait state. Even with the system board configured for 6MHz/1 wait state the Above Board wasn't recognized. EASYDATA 286 216I *CUSTOMER REPORT* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. System bus speed is 10MHz. Probably not compatible with the Above Board AT or PS/AT due to the fast bus speed. EPSON EQUITY II PLUS *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 80286-based system is compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Some reports indicate problems with an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic set for extended memory. Make sure bus is set for 1 wait state. This computer can operate at 8, 10, or 12MHz. There are jumpers on the motherboard for wait states, this computer can operate at 0 wait states or the IBM standard of 1 wait state. Small footprint computer, (very confusing since the Epson Equity II is an 8 bit machine!) EPSON EQUITY III *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. We also have reports that the Above Board 286, PS/286, AT and PS/AT are also compatible. The data bus in this system runs at 8MHz. EPSON EQUITY III PLUS *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 80286-based computer is compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. This computer is capable of switching speeds, (there are two versions of this computer: 6, 8, or 10MHz, and 6, 8, or 12MHz). The Above Board 286 and Above Board Plus were tested on the 10MHz version of this computer with both 120 and 150 nanosecond memory chips and are fully compatible. We have not tested the 12MHz version but have *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that they work fine with Above Board 286, Plus, Plus 8, and Matched Memory Classic. If the system is being run faster than 8MHz clock rate, user must run the MANUAL SETUP in SETBOARD, (or Technical Setup in first version of SETBOARD shipped with the Above Board 286), and set the Above Board or Matched Memory Classic to the appropriate speed. One customer reported that an Above Board AT worked in this computer. REMEMBER, the Above Board AT and PS/AT are NOT GUARANTEED to work above 8MHz. If they already have an Above Board AT or PS/AT, recommend setting the front panel switch on the system to 6 or 8 MHz ONLY. EPSON IIE Compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. This is a turbo system with a switch on the front that takes it back and forth from 8MHz to 12MHz. The BUS seems to always run at 8 MHz, 1 wait state, (the IBM standard), regardless of the system speed. Tech Notes: The video board is actually a Paradise VGA Plus with Epson's name on it, so it will be necessary to put it into 8-bit mode if an Above Board or Matched Memory Classic is providing exPANded memory. BIOS size is 32K, (C0000-C7FFF.) RAMBIOS.SYS will run the BIOS from conventional memory. We have *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that it is not possible to disable conventional memory on the motherboard for support of mappable conventional memory to be provided by an Above Board Plus, Plus 8, or Matched Memory Classic. EVEREX EVEREX 1700A *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. This is an 8-10MHz switchable 80286-based computer. EVEREX 1700C *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 80286-based computer is compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic boards. This system is switchable between 8-12MHz. EVEREX 1800 *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility between the following Everex 1800 series 80286-based computers and current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic: There are several different versions of this 80286 computer: 1800R- oldest system, it can be either a 6 or 8mhz system 1800A- 8-10mhz switchable system 1800B- 8-10mhz switchable system 1800C- 8-12mhz switchable system EVEREX 1800S AT COMPATIBLE *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that the Everex 1800S is INCOMPATIBLE with the Above Board 286. HOWEVER, one caller talked to Everex Support and was told that they would need a "PAL Chip Upgrade Kit" if they were planning on using an Above Board. Since the Above Board Plus, Plus 8 and Matched Memory Classic function in the same manner as the Above Board 286, they are probably INCOMPATIBLE as well. EVEREX STEP 286-15 *CUSTOMER REPORT* of compatibility with Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. A customer reported the processor runs at 8, 12, or 15MHz, but the data bus runs at 8MHz. FRANKLIN FT-286 *CUSTOMER REPORTS* of compatibility with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. Reports also indicate compatibility with the discontinued Above Board 286, PS/286, AT, and PS/AT. This is a 6/8MHz AT compatible computer. FOUNTAIN AT *CUSTOMER REPORTS* that this 80286-based system is compatible with current Above Boards and Matched Memory Classic. This computer is switchable between 8 & 10MHz. Tech Note: In at least one system, it was necessary to manually install the Above Board 286 software, we have not had these reports with the Above Board Plus, Plus 8, or Matched Memory Classic.
