Refer to Section 4.0 to create your 3-1/2" high density diskettes from the five images. 2.0 BEFORE YOU BEGIN ===================== - You must have PC DOS Version 6.1 installed on your hard drive prior to installing this 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade (hereafter referred to as Upgrade). If you attempt to install over any other DOS version, you will get an error message informing you that this Upgrade cannot be used. If PC DOS 6.1 is not found on your system, the files will not be copied over. - The individual files on the diskettes have been disabled. Only the Upgrade setup installation process will enable these files prior to installing them onto your system; therefore, do not use DOS files directly from these Upgrade diskettes. - If you are a LAN administrator: -- In order to do an administrator installation (SETUP /A), an existing PC DOS 6.1 administrator installation directory must exist and you must install into this directory. -- You cannot use SETUP /A to install to a new directory. - After you upgrade to Version 6.3: -- This product can also be used to re-install Version 6.3 or reselect optional tools, such as IBM AntiVirus/DOS. -- You should refer to the README.TXT file found on the last diskette for additional product information. 3.0 LICENSE AGREEMENT ====================== By using this program, you agree to the following terms and conditions: - You must be a current licensee of PC DOS Version 6.1. - You are allowed to install the same number of PC DOS 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrades as equals the number of copies of PC DOS Version 6.1 you are currently authorized to use. - All other terms and conditions of the PC DOS Version 6.1 license apply; however, this does not extend any warranty or service obligations outlined in such agreement. NOTE: For Service information, refer to your PC DOS Version 6.1 User's Guide (inside front cover). 4.0 HOW TO CREATE THE DISKETTE IMAGES ====================================== To create the diskette images: 1. Have five blank, 3-1/2 inch high-density formatted diskettes available and create a diskette label for each diskette such as: PC DOS 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade diskette # where: # = The number of the diskette you are creating, (in this case number 1 through number 5). 2. Go to the directory where you placed the PC DOS 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade files. 3. At the DOS command prompt, type: USD631 A license agreement is displayed. 4. Answer Yes (Y) to accept the terms and conditions of the licensing agreement or answer No (N) to cancel. By accepting the terms of this agreement, the first diskette image (USD631.DSK) is created. 5. Insert a blank formatted diskette into your 3-1/2 inch drive (A or B). 6. Type: LOADDSKF USD63#.DSK drive where: # = The number of the diskette you are creating, (in this case number 1 through number 5). drive = Your drive A or B. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for each diskette image. 5.0 HOW TO MAKE ADDITIONAL UPGRADE DISKETTES COPIES ==================================================== Use the DOS DISKCOPY command or you can follow the instructions provided in section 4.0 above to make additional copies of the Upgrade diskettes per your license agreement (refer to section 4.0 above). NOTE: Optionally, you can delete the diskette images, the USD631.EXE file, and the appropriate LOADDSKF files after you have successfully upgraded to PC DOS Version 6.3 to save disk space. 6.0 HOW TO INSTALL THE 6.1 TO 6.3 UPGRADE ========================================== To install the Upgrade: 1. Insert diskette 1 of the Upgrade diskettes into drive A or B 2. At the DOS command prompt, type: a:setup or b:setup 3. Follow the same installation procedure for the Upgrade as you did for PC DOS 6.1. 4. Any optional tools you selected for PC DOS 6.1 must be reinstalled for PC DOS 6.1 to upgrade to the PC DOS 6.3 version. 5. Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to complete the installation. NOTE: If you are installing the PC DOS 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade on a PS/1 DOS and ROM Four-Quad System, you must follow these steps: 1. Select YOUR SOFTWARE from the 4-quad selection screen. 2. Select the Drive A icon. 3. Select SETUP. 4. When prompted for options, type /p in the option box. 5. Select START or press Enter. 6. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. 7.0 GENERAL (AFFECTED UTILITIES) ================================= 7.1 The EXPAND Command ------------------ EXPAND cannot be used to expand executable (.EXE or .COM) files from the PC DOS 6.1 to 6.3 Upgrade diskettes. You press F8 immediately at system initialization. o A new key combination of CTRL+F8 at system initialization allows you to bypass the loading of the DBLSPACE.BIN file and be prompted to confirm each statement in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. o A new switch (/Y) has been added to the COMMAND command to allow you to step through a batch file. o The COPY, XCOPY, and MOVE commands have been enhanced to prompt you before overwriting files that have identical file names. o The CHKDSK, DIR, FORMAT, and MEM commands have been enhanced to display the country thousands separator. For example, in the US, the comma is used.
