ELPL DOLINKS Welcome to DOLINKS, the tournament interface for Links386 Pro and used exclusivly by ELPL members. DOLINKS **MUST** be used for all ELPL rounds as this program automates every aspect of ELPL Tournament Play and makes file naming automatic. Failure to use it will be detected and you will be disqualified. But after you use it, you won't want to use anything else. PLAYER SETUP INSTRUCTIONS These instructions only have to be done when setting up DOLINKS. Not for every tournament. 1. PKZIP.EXE AND PKUNZIP.EXE Version 2.04G **MUST** be located in you DOS path. Here is how you find out which directories are in your DOS path: From the C:\> ...prompt, type in the following: C:\>PATH where means press the enter key. What you will see will be something like the following: PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\BATCH;C:\UTILS;C:\DOS Now your patch may not look exactly like this, but using this example, its easy to seE that the following directories are in this path: WINDOWS BATCH UTILS DOS All on the C drive incidently. You can put PKZIP.EXE AND PKUNZIP.EXE into any one of these directories. Here is how one could now copy the files into your DOS path. Say that you downloaded PKZIP.EXE AND PKUNZIP.EXE into your C:\WAOL\DOWNLOAD directory or the directory your communications program sends downloaded files. PKZIP.EXE AND PKUNZIP.EXE are packaged together in a .EXE file. Note the file name when you download it. Usually the directory downloaded files are sent, is not in the DOS path so they must be move to the DOS path directory. If your PKZIP.EXE and PKUNZIP.EXE or the .EXE file package is located in C:\WAOL\DOWNLOAD, here is how you would copy these to a DOS path directory: From the C:\> prompt type the following: CD C:\WAOL\DOWNLOAD Now type: COPY *.EXE C:\DOS(For example as any DOS path directory will work) Now type: CD C:\DOS (NEXT PAGE) If the .EXE is a package that contains both PKZIP.EXE AND PKUNZIP.EXE, type the following. PKZ204G.EXENote**May not be the file name, just an example** All the files will be extracted and PKZIP.EXE AND PKUNZIP.EXE will reside in your DOS path. ELPL PLAYER SETUP CREATING THE "00" PLAYER No, this is not a player with a license to kill. The 00 means a player with 0 rounds played and 0 holes played. A PLAYER OF THIS TYPE MUST BE CREATED AND SPECIALLY STORED FOR ALL ELPL PLAY. Here are the steps involved in creating a 00 player: 1) Log to the LINKS386 directory and enter Links 386 Pro in the normal manner. 2) Select PLAYERS from the main menu. 3) Select Create/Edit/Delete from the pop-down menu. 4) Place the cursor in the field labeled "Golfer Name" and enter the following EXACTLY AS SHOWN: ELPL Example: ELPL DMH where are the initials you use for ELPL play. You would replace the DMH in the example with your own ELPL playing initials. 5) On this same screen, set clubs, chipping club, shirt color, etc. as desired, then Save and Leave. 6) From the Links 386 Pro main menu, select Game. 7) From the pop-down menu select Practice. 8) Choose the player you just created and click OK. 9) It doesn't matter which course or hole is selected, just click on OK so that your new player comes up prepared to play a practice hole. IMPORTANT: DO NOT PLAY THE HOLE, A HOLE, ANY HOLE 10) Make all desired changes to SETUP, USER1, USER2, etc. 11) Exit all the way out of Links 386 Pro (NEXT PAGE) 12) Make absolutely certain you logged to your LINKS386 directory. create a directory called ELPLPLAY. Then, copy your newly created ELPL player file to this directory as in the following example: MD ELPLPLAY COPY ELPL_DMH.PLR ELPLPLAY Note: DMH in the example would be replaced by your ELPL playing initials. 13) The most important instruction of all. NEVER, NEVER NEVER, use this player directly, EVER, EVER, EVER. Here's why. Anytime you're starting a new tournament, DOLINKS will sense it, and copy the "virgin" "00" player from the ELPLPLAY directory to the LINKS386 directory. The copy of the "00" player file will be used for the duration of the tournament. Next tournament, the "virgin" "00" player is copied up again. If you go messin' around with either the "virgin" "00" player or the copy, you will be risking disqualification, because information contained in the "00" file copy may be compromised. JUST SAY NO! I will not mess. Thats it. These instructions only have to be done once, before you play your very 1st round using DOLINKS. Now you wait until you receive DOLINKS.EXE and ELPLRNDS.ZIP which contains all round info for the whole tournament. MANY,MANY THANKS TO DOUG HURST FOR DEVELOPING THIS PROGRAM FOR USE IN THE ELPL.
