Almanac for Windows Version 0.95 7/17/90 WHAT'S NEW: - The only feature that has undergone any change, small as it may seem, is switching between the brief and desktop popup modes. The maximize arrow on the brief popup no longer switches to desktop mode, but instead maximizes the brief window. The procedures for navigating brief and desktop popup modes are: MOUSE ----- From BRIEF mode: o Double-click on text window to switch to desktop. o Click on MAXIMIZE arrow in title to maximize the popup; click on the restore arrow to restore to normal size. o Double-click on the system box to close. From DESKTOP mode: o Double-click on the desktop background to switch to the small, brief popup window. o Double-click on the system box to close. KEYBOARD -------- From BRIEF mode: o Press the spacebar to switch to desktop. o Access the system menu with ALT-SPACE and select Maximize or Restore to change sizes. o Press ESC or ALT-F4 to close. From DESKTOP mode: o Press ESC or ALT-F4 to close. - Fixed activating the 'Save' button after a 'Remove' is done on an overlay item. - Fixed printing timespans of notes to cover the proper time period and to print all notes without extra form feeds. - Fixed not being able to enter appointment times greater than 19:59 when Windows is setup to use 24 hour clock. - Fixed erroneous shading of religious holidays which occurred on some systems. - Fixed print routines to properly handle the same print driver installed on more than one printer (i.e., two HP laser printers on LPT1 and LPT2). - Fixed print options to correctly identify fonts and options as returned by the Deskjet family print driver and the Micrographx PostScript driver. - Fixed using the wrong month's info for placing 'note' indicators on the main calendar display after certain switches between months had been made. - Fixed UAE occuring when mouse cursor was clicked below notepad text which ended in an empty line with just a carriage return. - Fixed errorneous 'Alarm time must be less than...' message when no alarm was being set for a scheduler entry. - Fixed notepad formatting error when a range of text which began and ended with an empty carriage return line was highlighted and deleted. Almanac for Windows Version 0.94 6/20/90 - Fixed Unrecoverable Application Error when the last item in an overlay is 'Removed'. - Fixed UAE error in the sort algorithm for scheduler appoint- ments. A UAE error would occur whenever the sort attempted to sort a table already in perfect sort order. - Fixed apparent 'lock up' for some users at the shareware splash window. Special accolades to Eric Brown and Michael Geary for their help from the CIS MSWIN forum, as well as to Scott Baker and Mark Huth for their special testing and encouragement! - Fixed background color problems when running multiple copies of Almanac. Also added a message box to make sure you want to start another copy and warning message regarding updating desk files if you do elect to run multiple copies. Version 0.93 6/12/90 * I have replaced INSTALL.EXE with ALMSETUP.EXE after hearing from several users that the INSTALL program was not included with their file set. Please insure that ALL files are included when recompressing the files for distribution. New features included in version .93 have required a change in format of Almanac support files. The formats of overlay files (*.ALO) and auto-load module files (*.ALM) have been changed since version .92. Desk files (*.ALD) were changed between version .91 and .92. ALMSETUP will convert any of these files to current formats for registered users. Almanac comes with a complete set of default support files for the new or un-registered user. If you do not convert prior Almanac files, you will get a message box informing you that the file(s) failed their header checks. You should not attempt to continue working with Almanac until correcting this problem. * Every effort has been made to insure that version .93 is compatible with ALL modes of Windows 3.0. The program has been 'marked' as 3.0 compatible to avoid the WARNING startup message when not running Windows in real mode. Also, the new proportional system font will be used when running under Windows 3.0. * A global configuration file, ALMANAC.MST, has been added to maintain information for user preferences. You may now select the font faces and sizes that are used to display to your monitor (this is independent of print font preferences). An option is available for adding a sizing frame to the brief dayview popup to alter it's size to your liking. Another option allows you to save the new size and position along with the size and position of the main month window. This information will be used when the windows are initialized. You can select all of the preceding features from the 'Preferences' menu. Also, a new selection has been added to the 'File' menu, 'Save print parameters'. This selection is activated following any type of printing. It will save the font (and margin setting if appropriate) information in the ALMANAC.MST file to avoid re-selecting your preferred parameters for each print. * Overlay information is now maintained internally by Almanac, removing the awkward Notepad editting. I have attempted to construct a friendly dialog for editing items, however I'm sure there is room for improve- ment. Please let me know if you find any aspects particularly awkward or if you have any other suggestions. Almanac's overlay management also adds the ability to create recurring items within a period of time such as every Tuesday, the third Friday of every month, spans of days, and others. You may select a shading option to add colors and/or hatch patterns. This shading currently only affects the computer display and does not cause similar output when the calendar is printed. * Almanac has been updated to work appropriately when a user changes the application background or window text color via the Windows Control program. Multiple colors will only be used if you select a white background, otherwise all drawing will be done using the color of the window text.
