旼컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� � L O G O G O � � Ver 1.0 1991 � � by Dick Koster � 읕컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� This program is an add-on feature to the already nationally acclaimed WINDOWS 3.0 startup procedure developed by Mike Mezaros which allows one to insert his own Windows startup screen instead of viewing the Microsoft advertisement. Using his theory and the modified WIN.COM file authored by Charles Kistler, this program goes one step further to automatically provide a new startup screen each time you run windows. The basic operation is as follows: A ZIP file called RLE.ZIP will contain all your windows startup screen files with a ".RLE" extension. Each time the program runs, it extracts and sorts the RLE files into a table. If no ZIP comment exists, it assumes this is the first time you are running it, and it will use the first "sorted" file in the table as your "next" startup screen. The last-used RLE file's name is added to the zip file as a "comment". The file itself is extracted, merged with WINSTUB.COM to create a new WIN.COM, and then the extracted RLE file is killed from the directory (it remains in the zip file however!) The next time LOGOGO is run, it will remove the last-file-used name from the comment field, find its location in the current sorted RLE table, and extract the next one in line (or loop back to the top of the list). To add a new RLE file to the table, merely add it into the zip file and wait for its appointed time to appear (since it too will be merged into the existing list). 컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴 Installation Instructions: 1. Place LOGOGO.EXE and WINSTUB.COM (see below) into your windows subdirectory. (They must go there!) The first time LOGOGO runs, it will look for a file called WINCOM.SAV in the default directory. If it is not found, it will copy your WIN.COM file to WINCOM.SAV for safe keeping. It is your "WIN.COM" file which will be altered each time you run this routine so that the new startup screen will load. You may copy your original WIN.COM file somewhere else as well for safe keeping if you so desire, but it must be done prior to running LOGOGO! 2. Place the RLE.ZIP file in any desired subdirectory. The internal default subdirectory is \WINDOWS\RLE\ and unless otherwise specified, this is where the program will look for the RLE.ZIP file. You may use another subdirectory by placing it on the command line as follows: LOGOGO \win30\other\ 3. Before starting windows, either in your windows startup batch or AUTOEXEC.BAT file, execute this program. Then run windows. 컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴 The WINSTUB.COM file was created using the criteria listed below and was authored by Charles Kistler (CompuServe 72137,775). I created this file myself and it works fine. I was going to include it as well since it is only 4K long and would save the more squeamish an agonizing ordeal. I don't know about the ethics involved, but LOGOGO is "free", and one cannot use the WINSTUB.COM file alone without the entire WINDOWS 3.0 package anyways! But discretion being the better avenue to take, especially when depriving a large outfit like MicroSoft their advertising dues, I decided to pass along the procedure for creating WINSTUB.COM from WIN.COM. It is really very simple. Try it. You'll like it! Get into your directory that has WIN.COM. 2. Copy WIN.COM to WINSTUB.COM 3. Load WINSTUB.COM into DEBUG : DEBUG WINSTUB.COM [ENTER] 4. Type RCX [ENTER] 5. Type 11E0 [ENTER] (VERY IMPORTANT!) 6. Type W [ENTER] 7. Type Q [ENTER] 8. Now, you have a file named WINSTUB.COM. 컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� If you are a WALLBLASTER user, see WBAUTOxx.ZIP for another routine to use multiple zip wallpaper files. Each time Windows is run, it will select a new zip file (containing up to six different wallpapers which is the non-commercial WALLBLASTER default). 컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴컴� One further note: When this program runs it will place a version and author acknowledgment on the screen. Very small but vanity has its place. On the other hand, this is exactly what we are trying to overcome....advertisements while loading software! Hence this too can be removed if you so desire. Merely place the "shutoff" parameter on the command line as follows: LOGOGO /a If you also are including a path to your RLE.ZIP file on the command line, be sure that the shutoff parameter is "first", directly following LOGOGO!
