============================================================================== INSTRUCTIONS: 1) If you are getting these files from a bulletin board service: a) format a disk, b) label it LAN_DRV_020 using the DOS label function c) copy all the files onto this disk (LAN_DRV_020). 2) Regenerate a new OS with NETGEN, choosing the option, "Load and Select Item" from the "LAN Driver Options" menu. When prompted, insert this disk (LAN_DRV_020). 3) Copy ARCONFIG.EXE and ARCONFIG.HLP from this disk (LAN_DRV_020) to the BRUTILS disk. 4) Follow the instructions below to configure your system. ============================================================================== CONFIGURING THE FILE SERVER SOFTWARE PREPARING TO RUN ARCONFIG FROM A LOCAL DRIVE To run the ARCONFIG utility on a standalone computer (not connected as a network workstation), you will need the OSEXE-1 and OSEXE-2 diskettes that contains your NET$OS.EX1 and NET$OS.EX2 operating system files. You will also need the BRUTILS diskette containing the ARCONFIG utility files. Because the NET$OS.EX1 file is very large, you will not be able to copy the necessary ARCONFIG utility files onto the OSEXE-1 diskette. Instead, you will have to run the ARCONFIG utility using the separate diskettes. PREPARING TO RUN ARCONFIG FROM A NETWORK DRIVE To run the ARCONFIG utility from a network drive (on a network that is running), you must copy the ARCONFIG.EXE and ARCONFIG.HLP files from the BRUTILS diskette to a directory on the network. For example, if you plan to run ARCONFIG from network drive F, insert the BRUTILS diskette into drive A and type COPY A:ARCONFIG.* F: The asterisk serves as a "wildcard" character to copy both the ARCONFIG.EXE and ARCONFIG.HLP files. (It is not necessary to copy any other "support" files from the BRUTILS diskette since these files should be in the SYS:PUBLIC network search directory.) STARTING ARCONFIG (FILE SERVER SOFTWARE) To start the ARCONFIG utility so you can configure your file server software, complete the following steps. 1) Insert the program and file diskette(s) as follows: o If you are running ARCONFIG in standalone mode, insert the BRUTILS diskette into drive A. If your computer has a second disk drive (drive B), insert the OSEXE-1 diskette. (If your computer has only one disk drive, you must swap diskettes as prompted.) o If you are running ARCONFIG from a network drive, insert the OSEXE-1 diskette into drive A. 2) Switch to the drive that contains the ARCONFIG utility files. In standalone mode, this is drive A. For a network drive, specify the appropriate drive letter. 3) Type the command to start the ARCONFIG utility, which depends on the format of your OSEXE-1 diskette. o If you are using a 5.25-inch OSEXE-1 diskette, type ARCONFIG OSEXE-1:NET$OS.EX1 BRUTILS S In the command, the "OSEXE-1:NET$OS.EX1" parameter specifies that you will be configuring the NET$OS.EX1 file on the OSEXE-1 volume (diskette). The BRUTILS parameter specifies that the help files will be located on the BRUTILS volume (diskette). The "S" option allows ARCONFIG to configure the "split" operating system. o If you are using a 3.5-inch OSEXE-1 diskette, type ARCONFIG OSEXE-1:NET$OS.EX1 BRUTILS In the command, the "OSEXE-1:NET$OS.EX1" parameter specifies that you will be configuring the NET$OS.EX1 file on the OSEXE-1 volume (diskette). The BRUTILS parameter specifies that the help files will be located on the BRUTILS volume (diskette). ============================================================================== CONFIGURING THE IPX MODULE PREPARING TO RUN ARCONFIG FROM A LOCAL DRIVE To run the ARCONFIG utility on a standalone computer (not connected as a network workstation), you will need the SHGEN-1 (3.5" set) or SHGEN-2 (5.25" set) diskette that contains your linked IPX.COM file. You will also need the BRUTILS diskette containing the ARCONFIG utility files. (It is not necessary to copy any other "support" files from the BRUTILS diskette since these files should be in the SYS:PUBLIC network search directory.) STARTING ARCONFIG (IPX MODULE SOFTWARE) To start the ARCONFIG utility so you can configure your file server software, complete the following steps. 1) Insert the program and file diskette(s) as follows: o If you are running ARCONFIG in standalone mode, insert the BRUTILS diskette into drive A. If your computer has a second disk drive (drive B), insert the SHGEN-? diskette. (If your computer has only one disk drive, you must swap diskettes as prompted.) o If you are running ARCONFIG from a network drive, insert the SHGEN-? diskette into drive A. 2) Switch to the drive that contains the ARCONFIG utility files. In standalone mode, this is drive A. For a network drive, specify the appropriate drive letter. 3) Type the command to start the ARCONFIG utility, o If you are using a 5.25-inch SHGEN-2 diskette, type ARCONFIG SHGEN-2:IPX.COM BRUTILS In the command, the "SHGEN-1:IPX.COM" parameter specifies that you will be configuring the IPX.COM file on the SHGEN-1 volume (diskette). The BRUTILS parameter specifies that the help files will be located on the BRUTILS volume (diskette). o If you are using a 3.5-inch SHGEN-1 diskette, type ARCONFIG SHGEN-1:IPX.COM BRUTILS In the command, the "SHGEN-1:IPX.COM" parameter specifies that you will be configuring the IPX.COM file on the SHGEN-1 volume (diskette). The BRUTILS parameter specifies that the help files will be located on the BRUTILS volume (diskette).
