TITLE: Wrong ATM Font Prints or ATM Font Prints in Incorrect Resolution PRODUCT: Ami Pro 2.0 DATE: 14-Jan-1992 PROBLEM: ATM is being used with an HP LaserJet printer. Sometimes the wrong font is accessed or nothing prints. SOLUTION: Some customer reports have been received indicating that ATM (Adobe Type Manager) fonts may print correctly in some Windows applications where other applications printing to the same HP LaserJet printer prints incorrect fonts or no font at all. In some cases the ATM fonts print at 75 or 150 DPI resolution rather than at 300. These situations are thought to be caused by the printer's section in the Windows WIN.INI file containing incorrect information for graphics resolution. Follow this procedure to write correct printer resolution information into the WIN.INI file: 1. Load the application that is not printing the ATM font correctly. 2. In the application, access printer setup (in Ami Pro choose File / Printer Setup / Setup). 3. For Graphics Resolution, choose a resolution other than the current setting (for example, if the current setting is 300 DPI, choose 75 DPI). 4. Choose OK. 5. Choose Setup again to access the printer's setup dialog box. 6. Change the Graphics Resolution back to the desired resolution. 7. Choose OK. 8. Choose OK if necessary to completely exit printer setup. 9. Issue the print command again. If making the above changes in the printer setup does not solve the problem, it may be necessary to add a line to the WIN.INI file. HOW TO ADD PRINTER A RESOLUTION LINE TO THE WIN.INI FILE 1. In the Windows Program Manager choose File / Run. 2. Type SYSEDIT.EXE for the Command line option. 3. Choose OK. 4. Make the WIN.INI file the active window. 5. Locate the section for your HP LaserJet printer. The heading for the section will look similar to either [HPPCL,LPTX] for an HP LaserJet IIP or lower or [HPPCL5A,LPTX] for any of the HP LaserJet III level printers (X will be a port number. The port name may be COMX for a serial port). 6. Within the printer section look for a line that reads: PRTRESFAC=X X will be a number either 0, 1, or 2. If this line is not present, insert the line with a value of 0. The line you insert should read: PRTRESFAC=0 7. Choose File / Save. 8. Press ALT + F4 to close the System Configuration Editor. 9. Exit Windows completely to the DOS prompt. NOTE: Even if the PRTRESFAC line is present in the printer section of WIN.INI, exit Windows completely to the DOS prompt. 10. Restart Windows.
