GETTING STARTED WITH VOICE BLASTER Jr. FOR WINDOWS (C) 1992 Copyright by Mark E Cowan ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- INTRODUCTION: Thank you for evaluating this program. Voice Blaster Jr. for Windows is a Windows 3.0 application. It allows one to play any combination of 'queued' up 'midi' music and 'voc' digitized sound files from within windows. Since the program is a windows application, one can queue up multiple files, minimize the program, and run other Windows programs while listening to voice and music files simualtaneously. This currently supports only the Sound Blaster and Sound Blaster Pro cards, but will work on any Sound Blaster compatible cards. It currently only plays mono files, but if you register, when the Stereo functions are implemented, you will be notified (estimated about 2 months). Please try this program out and see for yourself how easy it is to use. If you decide to use the program, please send $10.00 to register this product. Also, see the 'register.txt' file for further exciting details of the parent program Voice Blaster for Windows (Sr). ***NOTE*** If you would like to receive a disk with an automatic installation program that will perform all the below instruction along with the full blown Voice Blaster for Windows, read the file 'register.txt' file for details! On with running this program! INSTALLATION: It is quite simple to install this program. Here is the neccesary steps: Step 1) First, you must modify the file in your 'Windows' directory called 'win.ini'. Before making this change, make a backup of the file. Here is the lines to add to 'win.ini': [SoundBlaster] Port=220 Int=7 DMA=1 Add these changes to the very end of 'win.ini'. Step 2) Next, copy all the files contained in 'vplayw.zip' to the directory desired. Here is an example of creating a new directory and copying the files after down loading vplayw.zip: dos prompt you type c:\pcplus\dwn> md c:\windows\vplayw c:\pcplus\dwn> copy vplayw.zip c:\windows\vplayw c:\pcplus\dwn> cd \windows\vplayw c:\windows\vplayw> pkunzip vplayw.zip Explaination: c:\pcplus\dwn is the directory the zipped file vplayw.zip was down loaded into. A sub directory of windows is created c:\windows\vplayw. Next, the file vplayw.zip is copied to \windows\vplayw, and then the files are unzipped. Step 3) Now copy the file 'sndblst.dll' to the Windows directory. This is important, and you must make sure that is is properly copied to the Windows directory, (where 'win.com' resides) usually c:\windows. Here is an example: dos prompt you type c:\windows\vplayw> copy sndblst.dll c:\windows When you run vplayw.exe, 'sndblst.dll' must reside in the windows directory to allow access to the Sound Blaster functions required to play music and voice files. RUNNING: To run vplayw.exe, first run Windows, and then either add vplayw.exe to a program group, or select the File menue from the Program Manager, then Run, and type in the full path name (ie: c:\windows\vplayw\vplayw.exe). Registering After you register, you will receive support for this program up to one year, receive notices on additional programs as they become available. See the file 'register.txt' for details.
