December 9, 1991 FileBoy Runner 1.0 From Homegrown Software (a.k.a. Marshal Bostwick) This program was written in Visual Basic and thus requires the VBRUN.DLL to operate. If you don't have it, you can get it from the Visual Basic Library (6) in the MSBASIC Forum on Compuserve or from any decent BBS. Fileboy Runner 1.0 is FairWare: if you plan on using it after a couple of weeks of trying it out, send me what you think is fair! As a registered user, you'll get "free" upgrades (i.e. you will be able to upgrade for the cost of a floppy disk and postage). Planned Enhancements: An .INI file to store user settings, a drop-down list for your most often used programs, and a new face to accomodate it. More? Maybe... FileBoy Runner is he first of a suite of VB apps now in the works which will be incorporated into FileBoy, a utility to replace Windows File Manager and including most of the features of Program Manager and Task Manager and more! (I thought about calling it The Kitchen Sink, as in "everything but..."). Stay tuned for details... Features: 1. FileBoy Runner can be set to "Minimize on Use" so it doesn't just disappear and thus is always quickly and easily available, unlike Program Manager's "Run," (or it can be minimized at any time in the normal fashion). 2. The user can select the start-up "Window State" of the application to be run: Normal w/Focus, Minimized w/Focus, Maximized, Normal w/o Focus, or Minimized w/o Focus. 3. FileBoy Runner checks to see if the application entered by the user is already running (some Windows apps don't support multiple instances), informs the user, and asks if he/she wants to proceed (YES), go back to try again (NO), or forget the whole thing and shut down (CANCEL). 4. Supports multiple instances of itself, each with the name of the application entered on the command as the icon's caption. Disclaimer (it must be done): The author claims no responsibility for the use or results of the use of FileBoy Runner. (It's small and well-behaved, but there's always a careless few who manage to mess something up somehow!) To Register: Like I said, send what you think it's worth. See REGISTER.TXT, included in this bundle. Contact and support: I can be reached on Compuserve (send mail to Marshal Bostwick, at 76646,2552) or by regular mail to: Marshal Bostwick 1601 West 350 North West Lafayette, IN 47906 Comments are greatly appreciated, complaints are accepted, and I will be happy to do what I can if you need help, advice, etc. on FileBoy Runner or related matters.
