Title: Performance Impact of Fragmentation under Windows NT Date: 29 August 1994 _______________________________________________________________________________ These tests were run on a DELL 486-66 under Windows NT build 756 with a 1GB Micropolis 8.5ms SCSI disk in a 100MB NTFS partition through an Adaptec AHA1540 5MB/s controller. The test program opens the file, reads it into a 64k buffer, and closes it. During the tests there were no other applications open. Disk caching was disabled. During the file accesses the test program does nothing else - the system time is read before and after for timing analysis. 10k001 is a 10kb file with 1 extent; 10k004 has 4. The Reads column shows how many times the file was read. Tot.ms is total ms for the run. Avg is average ms per read. Percentage is access ratio relative to the unfragmented control.
