LAUNCHING SERVICES FOR NETWARE IN WINDOWS NT Microsoft networking strategy is that every client can access every server and any server should work with any client. A large percentage of customers have NetWare. Therefore, Microsoft wants to seamlessly integrate Windows NT and NetWare networks. To do so, we’ve built a set of services for Windows NT called Services for NetWare, that includes: Client Service for NetWare in Windows NT Workstation Gateway Service for NetWare in Windows NT Server This umbrella strategy will also grow to other environments such as Services for UNIX, for example. The announcements today focus on the NetWare component. SHIPPING TODAY : SERVICES FOR NETWARE FULFILLMENT PACK! Formerly known by it’s project name NWCS, the Services for NetWare fulfillment pack includes the Client Service for NetWare for Windows NT Workstations and the Gateway Service for NetWare for Windows NT Servers. The Client Service for NetWare connects Windows NT Workstations to NetWare servers. The Gateway Service is a service only offered on Windows NT Servers. Desktops connected to the Windows NT Server can access file, printer and application resources located on the NetWare server, because Windows NT Server can act as a gateway to the NetWare server. The Services for NetWare delivers on our commitment to address the number one customer requirement for users of Windows NT version 3.1- connectivity to NetWare. SOFTWARE AVAILABILITY: Services for NetWare fulfillment pack is available now on Compuserve or Internet at no cost except for connect time. Online documentation is also available. This software will also only work with Windows NT and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1, Daytona beta already includes these services. INSTALLATION AND DECOMPRESSION OF THE INSTALLATION DISKETTES There are two diskettes for the installation of Services for Netware. These files will be called NCCx_y.EXE where x will be: I = Intel M = Mips A = Alpha and y is the disk number. To create your diskette set, copy the files to your hard disk and have two formatted 3.5 inch diskettes available. To create disk 1 of the Services for Netware, first place a formatted diskette in your A: drive (or B drive if your B drive is your 3.5 drive and type) and type : NCCx_1.EXE A: Note : remember to replace the 'x' with what matches your file named. This will run the self extracting archive and copy all the appropriate files to that floppy diskette. Then repeat the above procedure for your second diskette to create disk 2 for Services for Netware. After creating these disks, you should read the INSTAL.DOC for installation instructions.
