HipClipBoard 1.0 for Windows 95/NT Copyright 1997 Harro Mueller iNTRODUCTiON HipClipBoard enhances the Windows desktop with up to eight independant clipboard-buffers, each having its own hotkeys for copy, cut and paste. You can run it totally in the background or you can watch and modify the buffers in an easy-to-use environment. HipClipBoard is very useful if you have more than one piece of text that you want to insert at different locations of a document. Get rid of the annoying switching around between documents. It can also be useful when surfing on the internet: If you want to visit some new sites, you can first copy or enter their addresses into HipClipBoard. When going online you have them all at your fingertips and you will not waste any time typing them in while you are online. FEATURES - HipClipBoard helps you to save your precious time. - HipClipBoard offers an easy-to-use environment also comprehensible for less experienced users. - If minimized HipClipBoard runs silently sitting in the system tray (the area on the right of your taskbar). If you are using Windows NT 3.5x it will simply run iconized. - You can define your own hotkeys for each buffer using almost every possible combination of Control, Alt, Shift and any of the remaining keys. - You can disable single buffers to release their hotkeys so that special key combinations of Windows or other programs can be used without having to switch off HipClipBoard. - When closing down HipClipBoard all contents of the buffers and all settings are saved to disk and reloaded at the next start of HipClipBoard. iNSTALLATiON Installation is easy. As you have obviously been able to unzip this archive it is now your task to run 'setup.exe' by doubleclicking it in the Explorer or elsewhere. After that you will be guided through the rest of the installation. UNiNSTALLATiON Uninstallation is easy too. Just launch 'Add/Remove Programs' out of the control panel, highlight 'HipClipBoard' and click the 'Add/Remove...' button. The uninstallation will then proceed automatically. FiRST STEPS Start HipClipBoard by doubleclicking its icon in the HipClipBoard group. What you see now is the main window of HipClipBoard with its eight textbuffers. Do now change to another text window, select some text and press Alt+1. If you change back to HipClipBoard you can see that the selected text has been copied into the first buffer. You can modify the copied text by simply clicking into the buffer and editing it. Go back to the other text window, put the cursor on any position and press Ctrl+1. If everything went right the text has been pasted to the selected position. The same way you can cut text out by pressing Alt+Ctrl+1. The key combinations you have just used are only the default settings. You can change them by doubleclicking the accompanying buffer. In addition you can disable certain buffers by unchecking the 'Enabled'-checkbox next to a buffer. TROUBLESHOOTiNG - Doubleclick the icon in the system tray to open HipClipBoard. - Perform a rightclick on the icon in the system tray to see a popup menu with 'Open' and 'Exit'. - Put HipClipBoard into the Windows Autostart-folder and check the box 'Startup minimized' to run it automatically in the background on each startup of Windows. - The default configuration at the first start of HipClipBoard is the one I recommend. For buffer 1 it is Alt+1 to copy, Ctrl+Alt+1 to cut and Ctrl+1 to paste. For buffer 2 it is Alt+2 to copy and so on. This configuration is easy to learn and will most probably not interfere with any predefined hotkeys of other programs. - HipClipBoard will only work with text, not with graphics or some- thing else. Maybe this will be changed in future versions. - If you use HipClipBoard, the use of the standard Windows clipboard with text is not recommendable, because HipClipBoard makes use of the standard clipboard to buffer copied text. This will be fixed in future versions (promise!). - If you discover a strange behaviour like a hotkey does not work although you have defined it, please check if every hotkey is only defined once. SHAREWARE NOTES As this software is shareware it comes 'as is', there is no warranty implied or otherwise, nor is support provided. This shareware version is freely distributable as long as it remains unchanged. The unregistered version of HipClipBoard will allow only up to 20 copy/cut/paste actions per session.
