README.TXT for StartMan 0.6.0 ============================= Thank you for choosing to evaluate this release of StartMan CONTENTS -------- INTRODUCTION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INSTALLATION QUICK START GUIDE RESTRICTED FEATURES REGISTRATION INTRODUCTION: ------------- StartMan is has been written to provide an alternative method of starting programs from the STARTUP program manager group. It is Windows 3.x compatible, and comes in a 16-bit edition. Programs can be customized to startup in various ways including: * Minimize,Maximize,Normal. * With parameters and/or filenames. * Programs start up in a queue like fashion. * Disabling one or more programs in the startup process. * Stopping other programs from being loaded in the queue after a specific program has been loaded. * Exiting StartMan after running program items. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: --------------------- 16-bit Edition: ~ 386SX with 4MB RAM ~ 300K free disk space ~ Windows 3.x INSTALLATION: ------------- StartMan has a single execuatable file that can be installed in any directory. StartMan automatically detects your Windows Directory and uses this to store information in a file called 'startman.ini' To install StartMan from a ZIP file: 1) Create a new directory or folder ie c:\startman. 2) Unzip the startman .zip file into the new directory. 3) Create a new program icon in your windows startup group. 4) Click Browse and select the StartMan.exe file. 5) Follow the directions given below on how to setup your startup programs. QUICK START GUIDE: ------------------ To ADD a program Item in StartMan; 1) Select the NEW Button. 2) The Right pane window will now be active and ready for your program details. 3) Click the Browse (3 dots) button, this will open a file dialog box, simply choose the program and click OK. 4) Type in the description for the program. 5) Select any parameters, if you have chosen NOTEPAD for example, your parameter can be a switch or filename to load into notepad when it starts. Note: if a filename is given as a parameter, the full drive letter,path and filename must be given...eg 'C:\windows\win.ini'. 6) Select the way in which you wish to show the program when it starts by selecting an item from the drop down combo-box. 7) Select whether you wish to start the program on startup or not. 8) Select whether you wish to stop the launch of all programs after this one has been started or not. 9) Click the UPDATE button, this will add the item to the list. 10) Once all of your choices have been setup, you should remove thier icons from the program manager startup group if present. To Change the Order in which the programs are started; 1) Select the item in the list of programs from the left pane window. 2) Select either the UP or DOWN arrowed buttons to change the order. Note: Green coloured items will be launched when StartMan is Started. RESTRICTED FEATURES: -------------------- The following restrictions apply to unregistered copies of StartMan: 1) Only 3 Program Items can be setup instead of upto 10.
