WinZTask is a highly configurable rendition of the Windows 95 Taskbar that runs under Windows 3.1. It can launch programs from either its menu structure or directly from an icon on the bar. WinZTask can also be used as a replacement for the Windows 3.1 Program Manager with perhaps certain limitations because DDE. It can be used in small machines that can not yet updated to Win95. Version 1.1 add buttons in the desk. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SETUP To install WinZTask, copy the file WINZTA11.ZIP to a temporary directory (say C:\Temp, for example) on your hard disk and unzip it. Then, 1.------- IF YOU HAVE PKUNZIP.EXE: Copy the program PKUNZIP.EXE to the temporary directory and run INSTALL.EXE using the File | Run menu item in the Program Manager. INSTALL try to change Windows'shell in SYSTEM.INI from shell=progman.exe to (*) shell=c:\windows\system\winztask\wzt311.exe Old sistem.ini are saved as SYSTEM.WZT. If you experimente any trouble to start Windows after install, is because the change has not worked well. In this case: 1.1 Rename file SYSTEM.WZT as SYSTEM.INI 1.2 Edit file SYSTEM.INI and change the SHELL= line in the [boot] section of SYSTEM.INI to the fully specified path of WinZTask as in (*). 2.--------- IF YOU DON'T HAVE PKUNZIP.EXE: 2.1 Create in the SYSTEM directory of WINDOWS a directory named WINZTASK. 2.2 Create a subdirectory of the directory WINZTASK named BACKUP. 2.3 After unzip file WZT311.ZIP, copy all their files to the directory WINZTASK. 2.4 Use a text editor to change the windows's shell in file SYSTEM.INI from shell=progman.exe to shell=c:\windows\system\winztask\wzt311.exe (replace the word windows for your thrue windows's directory ) 3. -------- IF YOU HAVE VERSION 1.0 OF WINZTASK 3.1 Unzip WZT311.ZIP 3.2 Copy files (under DOS): ACCDIR.EXE CONFWZT.EXE WZT311.EXE to the WINZTASK directory. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When WinZTask is first run, it will not copy information from Program Manager's group files to initialize its menus. To configure WinZTask, click on the Configure item in the Start menu. Use the Configuration window to edit the current menus or add new menus or individual items. The Groups button in the Configuration window can be used to copy group information from Program Manager to a WinZTask menu. IMPORTANT REMARK: Do not delete files SYSTEM.* in the WINZTASK directory. Configure always save old version of SYSTEM.* in WINZTASK\BACKUP directory. This files, when copied in WINZTASK directory, can be used to recover WinZTaks in case of trouble with files SYSTEM.* 1. KNOWN PROBLEMS (GPF!!): 1.1 DO NOT USE program SYSEDIT.EXE from Windows. Use instead WSYSEDIT.EXE in WINZTASK directory. 1.2 DO NOT USE combination 'ALT + TAB' of Windows to change Tasks. Use the WinZTask bar with programs that register there (Only DOS programs do not appears in the Task bar!! because there is a problem with programs that change video mode), or, click in the task bar in order to activate Task Manager. These are the two correct ways to change tasks. 1.3 NOT COMPATIBLE PROGRAMS: It was informed to me by C. Shinn that the Dos program DOSBAR crash the system. CHANGES IN THIS VERSION 1. Configuration is now a better behaved separated program (ConfWzt.exe). 2. Buttons in desk for direct access. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- FREEWARE NEXT UPLOAD: File Manager 'Explorer like' for Windows 3.11 Sorry for our poor english!
