VBSYX - SYSEX Decoder/Encoder for Roland Sound Canvas/Yamaha XG Version 2.4 (Includes XG/GS MIDI Jukebox) Mike Le Voi, Author/Programmer Lee Jackson, Consulting Author Copyright (c) 1996, 1997 M. R. Le Voi Systems Consultants All Rights Reserved VBSYX is designed to decode and encode System Exclusive (SYSEX) messages for many Roland Sound Modules and Cards. Currently, the program specifically supports SYSEX messages for the SC-55, SC-155, SCC1, SC-88, M-GS64 and RAP-10. Other compatible modules/cards will probably work with this program: however, they are not specifically supported. All Yamaha XG Sound Modules and Cards are supported. Please see the files REGISTER.TXT, ORDER.FRM (for Australian and International, non-USA non-UK), ORDER.UK (for UK and European orders) and ORDER.USA (for United States orders) files included in this archive for information on registering this program. XG/GS MIDI Jukebox is bundled with VBSYX. Register one, the other is FREE! TESTING THE PROGRAM =================== This software is SHAREWARE. This means that you must register it if it remains on your PC. By default, some features are disabled to encourage you to register. However, if you want to try ALL the features, run VBSYX with a command line argument as follows: C:\VBSYX\VBSYX.EXE TRIAL This will provide an unrestricted version to test that will automatically time out after 15 minutes of use. In other words, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR VBSYX =================================== 1) Unzip this archive. Run the SETUP.EXE program enclosed. WARNING - WARNING - WARNING - WARNING If you don't have a copy of VBRUN300.DLL (the Visual Basic 3 DLL runtime library) in your x:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory, the SETUP program and VBSYX won't run. Get hold of a copy or ask me for one. 2) The program will copy CMDIALOG.VBX, SPIN.VBX, THREED.VBX, GRID.VBX, COMMDLG.DLL and MIDI1.VBX to your x:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory if you don't already have a copy of these files. Note: You may have older versions of these files. VBSYX will NOT work with them. If the program won't load OR does strange things during operation, use the VBXs I sent you. MAKE BACKUP COPIES OF YOUR ORIGINALS FIRST! It MIGHT be possible to set the Working Directory for the Program Item to be the same as the directory where all files that came with this program are stored. This should work, but it is not foolproof as Windows may have loaded the other VBXs for use by other Windows programs. Play safe: copy the files. Keep the old VBXs in case something else stops working 3) Use PKUNZIP or whatever to unzip the SYX.ZIP file to a suitable directory (e.g., C:\VBSYX\SYSEX). This file contains example SYSEX files for you to use. 4) Let it rip. View the HELP, CONTENTS FIRST! I know: you never use help. Well, in this case, do what you're told. There are some *very* important messages there. Let me know if you find any bugs - if you don't, I won't know to fix them. If possible, MIME send me a copy of any .SYX file you are having trouble with. This will make my diagnostic work much easier %-) I'll take a UUENCODED version at a pinch. Send this to the addresses shown below. Let me know if you have suggestions for improvement. I may do something about them. Mail all suggestions, compliments, requests for technical support, etc to: mlevoi@modemss.brisnet.org.au Good Luck!
