$$$1 ---LABGEN Main Menu Help--- Welcome to the LABGEN Main Menu! LABGEN will help you become more efficient with its labeling modules for Backup Diskettes and File Folders. With its Generation History Tracking Module, LABGEN will store valuable Peachtree Generation Histories that you can reference for backup data and use with Peachtree Data Query. LABGEN also has a feature called the 'Needs Sheet' in 'Utilities', to determine how many labels you need before printing your diskette or file folder labels. From this Main Menu you can get yourself totally organized in a matter of minutes with the help of the LABGEN Flow Chart contained in it's manual and with the Help Screens contained in each LABGEN Module. All LABGEN Menu's are controlled by either using the cursor keys to choose the LABGEN Menu Option and pressing ENTER or by pressing the FIRST Letter of any of the Menu Choices. %%% $$$2 ---LABGEN Disk Labels Sub Menu Help--- All of Peachtree's Modules are listed here. When you print diskette labels, the module name is printed on each label and the period ending date is printed next to the module name. On the second line, the generation number and current period number are printed. If you used the 'Needs Sheet' in 'Utilities' to determine the labels you want to print, you can go into any module listed here to begin printing your labels but, you do not have to use the 'Needs Sheet' to print labels from this module. Generation numbers will not print on those modules that do not have generations in Peachtree Complete III (e.g. Purchase Order, Bank Account Manager, Job Cost, Fixed Assets, and Invoicing). At this time, you can add an Additional Description for labels in each module in this menu by entering it via the 'Additional Descriptions'. Be reminded that those modules listed with a check mark (û) are ready for printing your Backup Diskette Labels at this time and those with a diamond () are loaded into the Label Queue file for printing. %%% $$$3 ---LABGEN File Folder Labels Sub Menu Help--- All of Peachtree's Modules are listed here. When you print your file labels the module name is printed on each label. Also, the period ending date is printed next to the module name, then your company name is printed on the line below the module name. If you used the 'Needs Sheet' in 'Utilities' to determine the labels you want to print, you can go into any module listed here to begin printing your folder labels. However, you do not need to use the 'Needs Sheet' to print labels from this module. At this time you can add an Additional Description for labels in each module in this menu by entering it via the 'Additional Descriptions'. Be reminded that those modules listed with a check mark (û) are ready for printing of your File Folder Labels at this time, and those with a diamond () are loaded into the Label Queue file for printing. %%% $$$4 ---LABGEN Generation History Help--- You can develop and save Generation Histories for the modules listed on this screen. These are the only modules that have generations in Peachtree Complete III. This generation history will become invaluable if/when you need generation/period ending data for certain modules. LABGEN will become especially helpful in Peachtree Data Query when you need to associate period ending dates with generations. To develop calendar quarter generations, enter the quarter ending date. LABGEN will ask you if you process this module on a quarterly basis, enter 'Y' for Yes; or enter 'N' for No if on a monthly basis. After entering your generation, current period and period ending date, you are asked if you want to make a list of generations back to zero. LABGEN will make a list of generations back to zero or to January 1980 which ever comes first. Also, from the generation history screen, you can make a history as far into the future as 12/31/99 for any module. Please refer to manual on history creation for all modules. %%% $$$5 ---LABGEN Main Utilities Help--- The Utilities Module has Backup, Restore, PCIII Label\Gen Printer Maintenance & Setup, Needs Sheet, and Remove Generation History. We recommend making a backup before you print a large label run, so if for some reason your data files are lost or you would like to re-print the entire run you can use the Restore program to restore your latest files. %%% $$$8 ---LABGEN Generation History Sub Menu Help--- After answering all the questions for the history you chose to create in this module, the LABGEN program gives you the ability to store individual generation histories for Peachtree Complete III. Using the 'Home' key will take you to the beginning of the history file and using the 'End' key will take you to the end of the history file. Using the F4 key, you can create a generation history as far into the future as 12/31/99. By using the F10 key, you can print full reports on a recently generated history or ALL of the histories saved on disk. If you exit this screen you are asked if you want to save any of your changes. Whenever you create generation histories in LABGEN, we recommend you making a backup through our backup utility. %%% $$$10 ---LABGEN Additional Descriptions Help--- If you would like to add an additional description to a label you can enter it here. Then you will be able to include it on the module labels you print. You cannot add additional descriptions from the 'Needs Sheet'. You must first add an additional description before printing labels and if you add an additional description it will be included on all your labels for whatever module you selected to print to the label Queue. An example 'Additional Description' is: 'Weekly Backup' or 'Transaction Control Reports'. To quickly delete an additional description simply type in the module number for the description and type a BACKSLASH (\) and press enter. %%% $$$11 ---LABGEN Generation History SPECIAL Payroll Help--- The payroll module is the only module where you could record dated generations more than once a month. For example, if you process payroll bi-weekly (or every two weeks) then you will need labels that are dated bi-weekly. You are prompted in this program for all the data needed to process your payroll labels. Be sure to answer all the questions for proper processing. This module does support all payroll possibilities and can be processed to work directly with the Job Cost module via the Setup area of Utilities/Printer Maintenance & Setup. If you escape this screen you are asked if you want to save any of your changes. Whenever you create generation histories in LABGEN, we recommend you making a backup through our backup utility. %%% $$$12 ---LABGEN Utilities Diskette Backup Help-- You should make a backup before printing labels or simply to save the most recent Generation History files. Be sure to backup before LONG label runs for LABGEN clears the 'Needs Sheet' data files for your next processing session. In the backup utility LABGEN will also let you print a backup label after making a backup. You can use this label to quickly identify your backup. Be sure to have a FORMATTED disk ready for the A: or B: drive of your system before attempting to backup! Each backup will report the amount of bytes needed to make your backup. So, you need to know how many bytes are free on your backup diskette before making the backup. %%% $$$13 ---LABGEN Configuration and Printer Setup Help--- LABGEN will allow most printers to work with the LABGEN Reports Module and the Label Printing Module. If you choose to use a Laser printer with LABGEN, please BE SURE that your laser is set to emulate EPSON or IBM type dot matrix printer. The default codes set up should work with most dot matrix printers and laser printers that emulate dot matrix printer codes. Note that if you do use a different printer code, that the codes in your printer manual that are referred to in this setup as the unprintable characters should be displayed in your printer manual with the CHR$(##) definition. In the example of the ESCAPE code, be sure to use the BACKSLASH (\) key to precede the code and be sure to use THREE numbers to define this code such as \027 for ESCAPE and NOT \27. If you wish you can also use the INITIAL printer code to call up any special loaded fonts that you may have in your laser printer for using these fonts in your reports. We suggest you use the default codes in this setup. You can easily return to default settings by deleting the LABGEN.CFG file in the LABGEN directory. %%% $$$14 ---LABGEN Needs Sheet Help--- When using the Needs Sheet, you must have created generation history in the 'Generation History Tracking Module' for any module you want to use the Needs Sheet for. In other words, if you want to create labels for 12 months in advance and your current generation is 20, you must create generation history to gen# 32 in the Generation History Tracking Module first. The 'Needs Sheet' will dramatically increase the speed at which you can complete your label runs as you fill and print the label Queue in the label printing area. PLEASE BE SURE that you do not ALTER your Gen Histories that make up this 'Needs Sheet' by decreasing the amount of dates calculated, for this will make the current created 'Needs Sheet' invalid and unavailable for your next update! %%% $$$15 ---LABGEN Utilities Diskette Restore Help--- LABGEN gives you the ability to restore previously backed-up LABGEN data. Be sure the correct backup diskette is loaded in your A: or B: floppy disk drive. The Restore Utility will warn you of overwriting of old data files, but cannot be interrupted once begun restoring! %%% $$$16 ---LABGEN Needs Sheet for Disk Labels Help--- Since the 'Needs Sheet' works directly off the 'Generation History Tracking Module', if you want to create a 'Needs Sheet' to include generations beyond your current generation you must first create the generations in the 'Generation History Tracking Module'. After you create all generations you want to print, you are ready to include the LOW and HIGH ranges in the Needs Sheet. Lets assume your current generation in the General Ledger is 20 and you created generations up to 40 in the 'Generation History Tracking Module'. And further you want to print labels from 20-40. You would enter #1, from the 'Needs Sheet', to bring up the General Ledger. Enter 20 as the LOW range and 40 as the HIGH range. This would give you 21 labels and 1 label sheet! Note: When you create a generation history for the General Ledger, you will be able to use the 'Needs Sheet' for General Ledger, Fixed Assets, and Bank Account Manager. See the manual for descriptions on how A/P, A/R, Payroll, and Inventory affect using all modules in the Needs Sheet. %%% $$$17 ---LABGEN Needs Sheet for File Folders Help--- Since the 'Needs Sheet' works directly off the 'Generation History Tracking Module', if you want to create a 'Needs Sheet' to include generations beyond your current generation you must first create the generations in the 'Generation History Tracking Module'. See the manual for description on how A/P, A/R, Payroll, and Inventory affect using all modules in the Needs Sheet. %%% $$$18 ---LABGEN Label QUEUE and Label Print Area Help--- You can use the data entered in the 'Needs Sheet' to print labels or enter your own generations here. Remember, if you want to create labels beyond your current Peachtree generation or period number you must create those generations in the 'Generation History Tracking Module' first before you can access them here. LABGEN's Label QUEUE stores printer data for any number module labels you want to print. So if you decide to print labels for 1 to 10 LABGEN modules, you send the label's printer data to the QUEUE then print as many modules as you have stored in the QUEUE. If you exit from LABGEN before printing the data you stored in the QUEUE, LABGEN will warn you before letting you exit the program. If you EXIT LABGEN BEFORE printing data you stored in the QUEUE, when you return to LABGEN you will have to re-enter all the data sent to the QUEUE. %%% $$$19 ---LABGEN Delete Histories and Datafiles Help--- LABGEN lets you delete histories and datafiles to free up hard disk. You should make a backup before deleting histories or any datafiles in case you need to restore the data at a later date via the Utilities Restore module in LABGEN. * NOTE: By Deleting the LABGEN QUEUE file you delete the QUEUE that contains your current session labels to be printed. All of your LABGEN Histories will be unaffected by deleting this Queue Data File. This feature will allow you to recreate the label Queue if you make any mistakes during the creation of the label Queue during this session. %%%
