MailMiser and CASS Certification
        (DMM references are USPS Domestic Mail Manual regulations)

  * CASS Certification applies to the software which generates the ZIP+4 *
  * Codes, not the software which USES them (MailMiser).                 *
  ************************************************************************

  The Postal Service has established a process to ensure the correct
  address matching and proper coding of ZIP+4 Codes and Carrier Route
  codes.  This process is called CASS (Coding Accuracy Support System)
  Certification.  It should be emphasized that this is a process, not a
  software package.  (DMM 531.111)

  Any mailing done at the ZIP+4 or ZIP+4 Barcoded rate must be generated
  from an address list which has been CASS Certified.  (DMM 531.112)

  One of the fundamental purposes of MailMiser is the ability to easily
  process an address list through 1 of 3 possible CASS Certified ZIP+4
  coding methods (DMM 531.12):

      1.  USPS CD-ROM diskette ZIP+4 coding service
      2.  CASS Certified software for ZIP+4 matching
      3.  National Change of Address (NCOA) process

  This is a FREE service offered by the USPS on a one-time basis to obtain
  ZIP+4 Codes and CASS Certification for your mailing list.  Simply select
  this option from a MailMiser menu, and diskettes are generated which you
  forward to your USPS Business Center for processing (usually 2-3 days).
  Upon their return (with your CASS Certificate), MailMiser reads in the
  new ZIP+4 and Carrier Route codes for use with your mailings.

  CASS Certification of an address list is valid for 1 year.  (DMM 531.16)

  Thereafter, or at any time, you may process your list(s) through a
  commercial service (for approximately $6/1000 addresses) having CASS
  Certified software for ZIP+4 matching (DMM 531.12).  One such service is
  First Data Resources (Omaha, NE).  They, incidently, also process lists
  for the USPS, as well as supplying the ZIP+4 CD-ROM systems for the USPS
  coding service.

  One advantage of the USPS or commercial service processing is that their
  systems are updated monthly for the most current ZIP+4 and Carrier Route
  coding.

  If you have large lists and/or frequent list changes, you may wish to
  consider purchasing your own CASS Certified ZIP+4 CD-ROM coding system.
  You will need a CD-ROM disk drive for your PC ($5-600), as well as the
  coding software ($250-500), plus periodic updates which cost about $1000
  per year for quarterly updates.  The only function of the CD-ROM ZIP+4
  system is to match ZIP+4 and Carrier Route codes to the addresses in the
  list.  MailMiser continues to be the mailing list management and Postnet
  barcoding system.

  Again, note that CASS Certification pertains ONLY to the ZIP+4 coding of
  an address list, and has NO bearing on list management software or
  Postnet barcoding of mail pieces.
