July 3, 1992 To: All "PS-Up" Supporters From: Knight Research - Compuserve ID 71301,3400 Subject: New Release - Version 2.37 This release follows quickly on the heals of the previous 2.32b release but with the new features included, I wasn't going to wait any longer. This release has been tested by my loyal beta group for over a week now using the new "multi-select" file feature. Many users have asked for the ability to select and send to the printer MULTIPLE files at a time. This version delivers on that feature! Also, in the Gee-Whiz department, a new feature which I call "watermarks". I call it that because the it gives you a variety of options to put a caption of your choice in the background of your print-outs...much like the watermark in paper. Any watermark text which you have changed and saved through the "save settings" option, will be automatically restored the next time your use PS-Up. New Visual Indicator: When you are printing a file, the background graphic changes color from red to blue to indicate that the program is busy printing at the current time. When printing is complete, the color changes back to red. Regards, Doug. ******************************************************************** Futures: I have had requests to look at the following enhancements to the PS-Up program: * Provide International support for the A4 paper size. * Provide Code page 850 character support. * Provide Command Line option to print file(s) from the command line. * Save the last drive/directory you were in so that you will automatically return there when run PS-Up again. * Duplexing support for printing on both sides of the paper. * New graphics to look at... * A variety of margin, font, and other changes too numerous to mention. These can probably be accomodated with a prefix & postfix codes section. With this feature, you will have the ability to "hook" into the PS-Up program and send a file of your choosing with the appropriate setups. * Long terms ideas of mine...change the program to use the PM GPI calls and eliminate the requirement to have a postscript printer! * Eliminate the fan-out menus and move the entire program to one concise dialog box with drop-down list option boxes...this would eliminate a lot of mouse clicks. * Change the program to use the drag & drop metaphor. Printing would be accomplished by pulling an icon based file from a list box and dropping it on a variety of different icons which represent printers and page formats. This would also supporting printing ascii text from a other programs as well as the OS/2 file manager. (Drag & drop was added to OS/2 with release 1.3 CSD 5015 and is fully supported in OS/2 2.0). No promises on if/when I'll get at these suggestions but I do appreciate the feedback. ******************************************************************** Previous Releases: Version 2.32b: New features: (1) supports HPFS long file and directory names. (2) line numbering option for program listings. (3) binding margins for 3-hole punch and other bindings. Version 2.25: New features: (1) Save Setups - to keep the options you've selected. Version 2.10: Original Compuserve release. - November 1991. ******************************************************************** If you are a first time user of PS-Up, this is a postscript formatting program which is useful for formatting plain ascii text files and printing them on a postscript printer under OS/2. PS-Up should run on any version of OS/2 1.1 or greater. It DOES require a postscript printer to print. This program will format 1, 2, or 4 pages of text...66 lines to a page on a sheet of paper. Printing to a file is supported. PS-Up is a multi-threaded program and does not tie up the OS/2 desktop while it prints. Lines longer than 81 characters wrap to the next line and are not truncated. ********************************************************************
