[FTLFAQS.TXT] Tue Sep 19 08:26:00 EST 1995 FTL processes and handles Usenet *.answers newsgroups slightly differently than normal newsgroup processing. Those differences are documented here: The answers newsgroups (news.answers, sci.answers, alt.answers, etc) are moderated groups for the posting of FAQs (frequently asked questions and answers to them) on thousands of subjects. Also, many newsgroups require users to read the related FAQ for the newsgroup before posting. Incoming FAQ's are automatically posted both to the newsgroup messagebases (news.answers, etc) and as downloadable files. The downloadable files are maintained for 31 days (files over 31 days old are deleted). The file description contains the summary information from the FAQ. A banner is placed on all descriptions which can be used to ignore (filter) these files when using an automated process such as Robocomm. The banner: [ftl/faq/news.answers] The filenames used are based on the NNTP server message numbers for each message in question. This should avoid duplicate filenames appearing and can be used to judge which, if several, FAQs are the latest (the highest numbered ones). If you have any questions or problems, please leave a note in the Support Conference on FTL (404-292-8761).
