Saving your game, the cheaty way !!


There IS a way to save your progress in the game...
Say your name is John.

Everytime you save the game, a file called john.sav is put into your
save directory.  Write a batch-file called save.bat:

copy john.sav backup.sav

Run it every time you save and quit the game.

Then if you die, you can start up at that point with the restore.bat 
file:

copy backup.sav john.sav

If you die a lot using this, you may encounter your ghost as well!  


If you want to cheat using this method read on....




Save the game.  Run save.bat.  Restart Nethack.  Quit the game (not 
save).  The game will now tell you everything you are carrying, and 
delete your save file.  But all you have to do is now run restore.bat 
and then run nethack again.  This is a good way to avoid wearing 
and/or using cursed items, and to identify objects that you are 
carrying.
