announces July availability of Hayes OPTIMA 288 Business Modem, the first
business modem to deliver professional messaging and provide enhanced security,
configuration and performance.

        Transmitting data at up to 230,400 bit/s, Hayes OPTIMA Business Modem
offers powerful solutions for remote node access to a LAN, shared modem access
from a LAN, transferring large files and multi-media. Hayes OPTIMA Business
Modem has new features such as Remote Configuration, Fail-Safe Flash ROM
upgradability, Access Control and Call Back Security.

        OPTIMA Business Modem enhances user productivity by providing a 
professional messaging system, allowing fax, data, and voice message management
from a single phone line.

prices US$579 and CDN$729.  Hayes OPTIMA 144 Business Modem will be available
for estimated retail prices US$519 and CDN$659.  Both modems come bundled with
Smartco Message Center LE software which offers messaging features such as
voice record and playback, messaging, fax-on-demand and paging integration that
are supported in the modem. Smartcom Message Center LE has a special set of
applets for controlling business features such as remote configuration,
security and voice/fax discrimination.
