On Friday, August 25 at Bally's Park Place, Alex Zolkin defends his NABF heavyweight title against veteran, Tony Tubbs. On Saturday, August 26 at the Convention Center hosted by Bally's park Place, Pernell "Sweet Pea" whitaker returns to Atlantic City to defend his WBC welterweight title, and more importantly, his "pound-for- pound" title against mandatory challenger, Gary Jacobs. Alec Zolkin, originally from Moscow, Russia, made his pro debut in 1990 and has proven himself in the boxing world with his intense work ethic and training regime. This will be the second time Zolkin and tubbs have entered the ring together, and Zolkin plans to even the score. Zolkin was 14-0 when he faced Tubbs but lost in a tough 10-round decision that made the young fighter even more determined to let the heavyweight world know he was a fighter who could meet the challenge. Since the first loss, Zolkin has done just that by continuing to assert himself in the heavyweight division and now holds the NABF heavyweight title. Tony Tubbs, hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, made his pro debut in 1980 and has compiled quite a strong fight record by knocking out over half the opponents he has faced. The seasoned veteran and former WBA world heavyweight champion brings his skill and experience to the ring. Tubbs faced Andre Crowder this past March and won by KO in the first round. Tubbs is a fighter who has proven he can go the distance or take an opponent out early with his power. Tubbs is looking to win another heavyweight title on August 25. In Whitaker's last outing, he thrilled the Atlantic City crowd by hammering away at the gargantuan Julio Cesar Vasquez to capture his sixth world title in four weight classes. Shortly after the bout, Whitaker relinquished his newly won WBA junior middleweight belt to return to the welterweight division. That victory on March 4th increased the 31-year old southpaw's pro mark to 35-1-1 with 15 knockouts. Jacobs has shown the patience of a saint. Despite a marvelous record of 41-5 with 23 knockouts, the Glasgow, Scotland native is receiving his first world title opportunity after 10 years as a professional. The 29-year old southpaw is the current European welterweight champion and #1 contender status by the WBC. Tickets for the Zolkin-Tubbs bout at Bally's Park Place on Friday, August 25 are 425. The 12-round title bout will be the featured attraction of the six fight card with the main event to be televised live on ESPN at 9:30 PM. Tickets for the Whitaker-Jacobs bout on Saturday, August 26 at the Convention center are priced ar $200, $75, $50 and $25.
