Born Wynette Pugh, Tammy Wynette was raised on her grandparents' cotton farm in Itawamba County, Mississippi. After leaving high school to get married, Wynette attended beautician's school. When her marriage failed, she supported herself and her children by working as a beautician and singing on a daily morning television program. One year later, Wynette changed her lifestyle - and her name - when she moved to Nashville, auditioned for Epic Records, and recorded her first single "Apartment #9." "Your Good Girls Gonna Be Bad," her first Top 10 hit, and "I Don't Wanna Play House," her first #1 hit and Grammy Award-winning single, followed soon afterward. Nicknamed "The First Lady" because she was the first female country act with a million-selling album, Wynette has had 20 #1 hits, including "Stand By Your Man," "Take Me To Your World," and "D-I-V-O-R-C-E." She has had 39 Top 10 hits, 11 #1 albums, and two Grammy Awards. Wynette's accomplishments and setbacks were chronicled in her 1979 auto- biography, "Stand By Your Man," which became a successful television movie. Most recently, Wynette has completed a number of collaborative projects, such as "Justified and Ancient," a #1 single recorded with British pop act The KLF, Honky Tonk Angels, an album recorded with Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynnm and Without Walls, a collection of duets with artists such as Sting, Wynonna, Elton John, and Smokey Robinson. TropWorld Casino and Entertainment Resort, with "The First Lady of Country Music," and the Loosest Slots on the East Coast, is the FIRST choice for gaming and entertainment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ALAN KING AND JULIE BUDD PERFORM AT TROPWORLD CASINO AND ENTERTAINMENT RESORT AUGUST 15 THROUGH AUGUST 21 Atlantic City, NJ --- The humor of Alan King meets the spectacular voice of Julie Budd when the two consummate entertainers perform in the Showroom at TropWorld Casino and Entertainment Resort August 15 through August 21. Born to Polish and Russian immigrants in Brooklyn, New York Itwin Alan Kniberg was always a performer at heart. As a teenager, he organized and played drums in a band which specialized in weddings and bar mitzvahs. After dropping out of high school, he toured with a Major Bowes amateur show and earned money as a prize fighter in Canada for a short time. Before he was able to perfect his right cross, King made his comedy debut in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. Since that time, he has become one of the nation's most popular comedians, playing the most prestigious venues in the world. A best-selling author, he has written three books which together have sold over a million copies. King is also an established actor, having starred in such films as "Enemies: A Love Story," "Just Tell Me What You Want," and "Memories of Me," which he also produced. His experience in the entertainment industry led to his appointment as chair of the New York State Film Commisiion by former New York Governor Mario Cuomo. Recently, King has completed a series of interviews for Comedy Central's "Alan King: Inside the Comedy mind." In this series, King speaks with guests such as George Burns, Jerry Lewis, Milton Berle, Whoppi Goldberg, Jerry Seinfield, and Carl Burnette regarding the nature of comedy. Opening for Alan King is singer Julie Budd. Budd's entertainment career began when a friend persuaded her to enter a talent contest at a popular new York hotel. Composer/arranger Herb Bernstein, also a guest at the hotel, saw the talent show and discovered Budd's powerful voice and impressive stage presence. That voice and stage presence propelled Budd to appearances at New York's Avery Fischer Hall, The Copacabana, London Palladium, and Israel's Performing Arts Center, as well as roles in the motion picture "The Devil and Max Devlin" and the stage musical "They're Playing Our Song." She has performed with the likes of Jimmy Durante, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Liberace, Joan Rivers, and Bill Cosby. Julie Budd's voice has also been heard on commericals for Kodak, AT&T, and Coty Perfume. Alan King may be the King of comedy, but when it comes to slot payout, TropWorld Casino and Entertainment Resort continues its reign as #1 in the East. TropWorld's slot machines have paid out over $11.4 billion to slot players over the past five years. How lucky can you get! ______________________________________________________________________________ SPECIAL EVENTS ______________________________________________________________________________ HAVE A SUMMER OF FUN AT TROPWORLD'S CASINO AND ENTERTAINMENT RESORT'S TIVOLI PIER.
