Dan, W4BRE, reports that all the documentation for the 5A1A operation was sent to the ARRL DXCC Desk on August 10th, from Kiev by the International Youth League of Ukraine. The league should have it within 4-5 days. There is a very good chance there will be a different QSL address for any QSOs made AFTER July 25 by the members of the 5A1A Youth League, which was established in Libya by the Ukrainians. There are presently three Libyan operators active at 5A1A now, Ali, Usaama, and Mufi. 5A1A club station has been heard around 7005 kHz at 2000z and on 20 meters SSB (14207 and 14243) sometimes with Selim, OE6EEG, to help out. One operator, Usaama, has asked to QSL via Box 78665 in Tripoli, but since no QSL cards are printed as of yet for these operators, it is recommended that everyone should wait on sending QSLs until a correct address is determined or verified. Meanwhile, a report of a station signing 5A/G0UCT showed up last Friday on 14020 kHz between 1515 and 1630z. The station is probably a SLIM, but Work First Worry Later (WFWL). 5R MADAGASCAR. Shun, JF1MGI/VK9MG, who is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, will be in Madagascar from middle August to the end of September to investigate ecosystems of rare animals, such as Lemur Catta (Ringtail Lemur). His radio activity, with emphasis on RTTY, PACTOR, and lower bands, will be concentrated during the third week of September using the callsign 5R8EU. QSL to his home CBA. A6, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. The DX News Sheets (DXNS) report that A61AI and A61AM are two new recently licensed stations. ASIAN AND AFRICIAN DXPEDITIONS. Ali, ZP5ALI, will be active from Syria as YK1/ZP5ALI from Augsut 22-27th, Egypt as SU1/ZP5ALI from August 28th to September 3rd and Lebanon as OD5FR from September 4-14th. All Canadian Amateurs have been authorized to use special prefixes to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations. Look for them on the usual IOTA frequencies. QSL via 7L1MFS. KH9, WAKE ISLAND. The DX News Letter reports that Tom, AL7EL, will be active again as KH9/AL7EL, at the end of October. NEW ENGLAND DX CONVENTION. The New England ARRL DX Convention and Dinner will be held on October 7th, at the Student Center, Worcester State College, 486 Chandler Street, Worcester, MA. Sessions begin at 9:30 AM and run until 1 PM. Topics will appeal to both the experienced DXer and the newcomer. DX forums including presentations describing some recent DX-peditions ; DX Quiz; Pile-Up Contest; QSL card checking; and, displays. The Yankee Clipper Contest Club will also hold their Contest University. Dinner with speaker will be at 2 PM. (WFWL) VP5, TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS. PA3ERC, PA3EWP, PA3BBP and PA3FQA (four members of the PI4COM Contest Group) will be active from Providenciales Island September 7-26th. The group will be signing /VP5 their own calls and will be active on all bands/modes. They will sign VP5C during the WAE SSB Contest and the CQ WW RTTY Contest. QSL via PA3ERC, R.J. Snieder, Van Leeuwenstraat 137, 2273-VS, Voorburg, Netherlands. VP9, BERMUDA. Don, W4ZYT, plans on being active from Southampton Parish as W4ZYT/VP9 from September 16-22nd. His activity will be on 40-15 meters, mostly CW. XV, VIETNAM. Rolf, SM5MX (aka XV7SW), is currently on leave in Stockholm, Sweden. He will be heading back to Hanoi, August 26th. Rolf mentions he is still stuck on fixed frequencies in XV-land, but hopes this will change with the new regulations entering into effect this fall. He also states despite various messages in bulletins regarding low band operation from XV7SW, he was not active on 160-80-40 meters since he couldn't find any antenna wire. This will be one of the things he will be take back with him when he returns to Hanoi. He will also install CW filters on his equipment. The XV7SW QSL cards were printed in Hanoi and he plans to start sending cards out in September. XW, LAOS. The DX News Sheets report Andreas, DK9LM, (ex-TA1ZE) is in Laos for 20 months and will try to obtain a licence to operate. YE50, INDONESIA. This will be the last week to work the special event station YE50RI, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of Indonesian independence. Operations will continue until August 17th. QSL via N6QLQ.
