Plextor Introduces World's First
6X CD-ROM Drive 

Santa Clara, CA February 24, 1995 - In a move that confirms its 
technological leadership, Plextor Corp., a pioneer in advanced 
technology for the CD-ROM marketplace, today announced the world's first 
six-speed, half-height CD-ROM drive. Plextor had previously released the 
world's first internal quad-speed CD-ROM drive in June of 1994.

Dubbed the 6PleX, this new drive line offers the fastest data throughput 
and access times available in CD-ROM performance with a 900KB/sec data 
transfer rate and a 145ms random access time. Plextor plans on shipping 
each 6PleX with a custom device driver that will further enhance the 
drive's performance. List price for the internal drive will be $599. 
List price for the drive bundled with a 16-bit SCSI host adapter will be 
$649. Plextor may also bundle the drive with a Bus Master host adapter 
to take full advantage of its superior performance. 

With scheduled availability in April, the 6PleX confirms Plextor as the 
leader in the development of  CD-ROM drives for multimedia, video, and 
database retrieval applications. Industry leading throughput and access 
times clearly establish the 6PleX as the best networking CD-ROM drive 
solution. Plextor will also install the 6PleX in it's hot-swap towers 
and make it available in an external version in the coming months.
