README.TXT 9/22/95 (alj, cnc) This archive should include the following files: This Readme file, a Changes file, the new listing of the AT command set, and a V34 Flasher Utility program. These are provided to update your SupraFaxModem to the latest firmware. If your modem currently is using the 1.200-02 or earlier firmware, use the flasher utility included in this archive to update your modem to the 1.300-07 firmware. To do so use the following steps: 1) Run the flasher utility program. Note that if you have a VFC modem it must be upgraded to V34 prior to using these flash utilities. PC: run the FL_1200.exe file included in the archive Mac: Double click on the FlashModem Ext V34 icon Amiga: Double click on the Fl_1200 icon 2) On the PC and Mac flashers, indicate what port the modem is connected to. 3) After the flash utility finds the modem, select the option to flash. 4) After the completion of the flash utility, reset the modem in your terminal software by giving the command: Mac: AT&F1&W&W1 PC and others: AT&F2&W&W1 5) If the flash fails (the program stops or reports an error) re-run the flash utility (try again!). 6) Once you have flashed your modem to the new 1.300-XX firmware, there are some important changes in the way you can flash your modem. Be sure to read the the following information. ---- Please Note! In an effort to better meet the needs of our customers, Supra has made an enhancement to the way your SupraFAXModem is flash upgraded. After upgrading your modem to the 1.300-XX code in this archive you will be able to upgrade your modem by simply sending a file to it with the x-modem protocol! (You can thus flash the modem directly from a terminal program that supports x-modem transfers. And you won't necessarily have to use a Macintosh, Amiga, or PC with DOS/Windows to do it!) Once your modem has been updated to the 1.300-07 firmware you can use the next version of the flasher utility for further upgrades, or you can do it 'manually': X-MODEM Flash Upgrade Procedure ------------------------------- 1) Download the new firmware for your modem from one of our support sites: (http://www.supra.com/, ftp.supra.com, Supra BBS 503-967-2444, etc...) The file will be designated SUPxxxx.sb7 (where xxxx is the product code). You can find the product code of your modem by issuing ATI92 to your modem. SupraFAXModem 288 V34 external = SUP1200 SupraFAXModem 288i V34 internal = SUP1210 SupraFAXModem 288i PnP internal = SUP1290 SupraFAXModem 288 German = SUP1280 SupraFAXModem 288PB V34 (Powerbook) = SUP1220 2) Launch/run your favorite terminal program (it must support x-modem). 3) Set the DTE ('baud rate') to a reasonable speed (38400) supported by your computer. 4) Ensure that hardware flow control (RTS/CTS) is enabled. 5) Type the command AT** to the modem. This will put your modem in flash mode. 6) Tell your terminal program to 'send' the file (SUPxxxx) using x-modem. The modem will 'receive' the file update it's ROM. (If you are using a Mac, be sure to have 'binary' set, not Macbinary or ASCII) 7) After the flash is complete, the modem will again display 'OK'. Reset the modem parameters by typing one of the following in your terminal program: Mac: AT&F1&W&W1 PC, Amiga, or other platform: AT&F2&W&W1 8) Your modem is successfully updated. If your modem reports an error when you enter the command AT**, it has not yet been updated to the level that supports the x-modem upload. You will need to utilize one of the 1.300-07 flasher programs to update your modem. If you experience any problems, reset your modem and try again. When you reset it, if the modem stays in flash mode (blank display) you will need to set your DTE ('baud rate') to 9600 and continue from step #4 above. The "traditional" modem flash upgrade utilities will continue to be available as well as this new "x-modem" method. NOTE: Once you upgrade your modem to 1.300-07 you can only go back to the 1.2-02 code by using the PC version 1.2-02 flasher program or by using the x-modem method listed above (with the 1.2-02 flash file from Supra). For technical reasons the 1.2-02 versions of the Mac Flasher or Amiga Flasher will no longer function!
