PM Converse Client-

Converse is a is an "IRC-like" protocol that has been in use in variations
of KA9Q NOS. The traditional client is a simple textmode "ttylink" client.
Walt Corey ported the WG7J variant of KA9Q NOS to OS/2 PM. Part of his 
effort yielded a "split screen" interface for the original textmode client.

Converse.exe is Walt's rewrite of the PM "ttylink" client to use the IBM
TCP/IP 2.0, 3.0, and IAK stacks. He has made the client available to 
members of Team OS/2 to use in connecting through a team supported 
"mini-IRC" for providing up to 32,000 active public and private chat 
channels dedicated to team activities and help sessions. This system DOES 
NOT link with IRC.

After you unzip the client, move it and the icon file to your \tcpip\bin
subdirectory. Create a program icon for it in your IAK or TCP/IP folder
and enter "giskard.utmem.edu" in the parameters line. If the icon is not 
associated with the file on your system, drag it over the generic program
icon on the last page of the settings notebook. When you start the program,
you should connect to the server and get a welcome message. Login using a
unique name. Take the time to read the help messages.

The server is poorly documented right now, and probably will 
stay that way. I don't have much time to deal with the docs. Basic
operation is simple and potentially very useful to the OS/2 community.
I will run the server on an experimental basis and consider more permanent 
support if there is good acceptance and abuses stay minimal.
