Signit.exe Version 1.02 Sign-It! Table of Contents I. Installing Sign-It! II. Getting Started II. Installing Sign-It! For Windows 95 1. Create or use a temporary directory and unzip the compressed files from the shareware archive into that directory. 2. Make sure you are running Windows 95 and from the Start Button, choose the Run command and run the SETUP.EXE program in the directory you decompressed the files into in step one. For example, if you decompressed the archive into C:\TEMP, then you would enter C:\TEMP\SETUP in the command line edit box. III. Getting Started The following recipe should get you quickly going with Sign-It! 1. Install Sign-It! from the installation floppy or directory. This creates a Sign-It! program group with the Sign-It! application icon inside. 2. Use the Start Button and select Programs, then the Sign-It! Program Group, and finally Sign-It! to run Sign-It!. This makes Sign-It! available to Windows OLE (Object, Linking and Embedding) enabled documents. Nearly all Windows applications support OLE. 3. Pull down the Sign-It! menu and choose the Default Setup command to bring up the Default Setup dialog box. The wrench icon in the toolbar also brings up the Default Setup dialog box. 4. In the dialog box, choose Use Signature Font. You should see John Hancock’s signature in the signature preview box. At this time, you may also want to change the Title Block by editing the text in the 3 Title Block boxes. Delete all text from a box to remove the line. These lines appear under your signature and can be used to include a printed version of your name as well as title and company. 5. When you are satisfied with the default options, click the OK button to save the settings. 6. Now close Sign-It! by selecting Exit from the File menu. 7. Now let’s test out Sign-It! by starting Microsoft WordPad (or you may want to use your favorite word processor instead). 8. Once WordPad is running and visible, pull down the Insert menu and select the Object command to bring up the Windows Insert Object dialog box. Choose the Apropos’ Sign-It! object and click OK. At this time Sign-It! inserts the signature and the menu bar changes to Sign-It!'s. The Default Setup signature will be displayed. If you wish to accept this signature exit Sign-It! by clicking outside the signature box. This will close Sign-It! and embed the signature into your document exactly where you want it. Note: The shareware version will periodically replace the signature with a solid color box with a reminder to register the product. Simply continue past this reminder and the correct signature will be inserted into the document. 9. If you want to change anything about the signature, just double click on it and the Sign-It! application will automatically pop up. Then use the Edit Signature command under the Sign-It! menu to change any current attributes for this signature. Editing a Signature describes more about modifying the signature 10. If you plan on using Sign-It! with a word processing package such as Microsoft Word, or WordPerfect For Windows, macros are included with the registered version to further simplify signing documents in your favorite word processor. The macro installation process is very quick and makes using Sign-It! even easier. For example, if you are using Microsoft Word 6.0-7.0 a special Sign-It! command is added to the Insert menu as well as an easily accessible toolbar button which makes signing a document as simple as the push of a button. 11. If you register Sign-It!, we will turn your signature into a TrueType font just like our sample one and return it to you. With a TrueType signature font your signature will never look jagged, or slow to print or fax due to large bitmap images. However, you can use Sign-It! today by generating a bitmap version of your signature either using a bitmap editor such as Paintbrush or a scanner. Sign-It! accepts Windows Device Independent Bitmap files such as the .DIB or .BMP files created by Paintbrush. Refer to the SignIt.hlp file for more detailed information on using a bitmap image of your signature with Sign-It!. Thank you for using Sign-It!
