QuickTime Movie Player For Windows V1.2 REQUIREMENTS ------------ - Microsoft Windows V3.1 or higher - QuickTime for Windows runtime libraries (see below). OVERVIEW -------- This program will play QuickTime movies. You must already have QuickTime installed on your system to use this program. If you don't already have the QuickTime runtime libraries you can get them from http://quicktime.apple.com. INSTALLATION ------------ 1. Look in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory for the file 'CTL3DV2.DLL'. If the file is already there go to step 3. Note: this is a common file and the chances are very good that another program has already installed this file. 2. Copy the file into your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory if it isn't already there. 3. Delete the file from the directory that you unzipped the program in. 4. Create an icon for the program. If you get a message box when the program starts stating that 'This program uses CTL3DV2.DLL which has not been properly installed' (or something to that effect) there are two possible causes. 1). The file does not exist in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory or 2). You forgot to delete the file from the program's directory. NOTES ----- This release currently supports playing Apple QuickTime format movie files. There is also limited support for playing AVI files. Note that AVI files are not yet officially supported. The menus should be self-explanatory. The only option that might need clarifying is the 'Copy To Clipboard' option in the 'Edit' menu. This option will copy the currently displayed movie frame into the clipboard which can then be pasted into another program. There is also support for a movie file name to be passed to the program on the command line which the program will then open upon startup. This would be useful if you wish to configure this program as a viewer for another program. For example, you could configure your web browser to run this program and pass it the name of the movie. The Copy command on the File menu will make a copy of the movie file and save it wherever you wan it to. This feature is really only useful if you use it as a viewer for a web browser. Therefore you can use this program as a viewer and also put the movie file where you want it if you like the file. Otherwise, if you don't want to keep the file the web browser will delete the temporary copy that it made when it exits. REGISTRATION ------------ This program is SHAREWARE. I have no set registration fee, but if you find this program useful I would appreciate it if you could send me whatever you can afford. This will help me to develop future versions. Even if you can't afford to send any money, I would still like to hear from you. Write me and let me know what you think of the program, any bugs you find, suggestions, etc. I can't offer any incentive for registering at this time except for you having a clean consciounous :). This program is not intentionally crippled in any way, so if something doesn't work right it is due to a bug in the program or something in either Windows itself or another program that is causing the problem. FUTURE VERSIONS --------------- Features planned for future release: - full support for playing AVI files. - support for viewing some types of picture files (JPEG files for example). Also, I hope to eventually support converting between movie formats and maybe even adding editing support. I may also attempt to add support for playing MPEG files.
