To help you maintain current protection against computer viruses, including the newly discovered macro viruses, Symantec is distributing NAVPATCH. This program upgrades your already installed Norton AntiVirus version 95.0 to version 95.0.a automatically. NAV95PCH -------- NAV95PCH.EXE is a self-extracting archive that contains NAVPATCH, the upgrade patch program, its support files, and this READNOW.TXT file. To extract the upgrade files from the compressed archive: 1. Copy NAV95PCH.EXE to a temporary folder on your local drive. You can use any folder except the one where Norton AntiVirus is installed. For example, copy NAV95PCH.EXE to the C:\TEMP folder or the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP folder. 2. Double click NAV95PCH in a "My Computer" window or the Windows Explorer. The patch files are extracted from the archive automatically. NAVPATCH -------- NAVPATCH is the program that performs the actual upgrade. To upgrade your installed version of Norton AntiVirus: * Double click the NAVPATCH icon in a "My Computer" window or the Windows Explorer. NAVPATCH finds your installed Norton AntiVirus and performs the upgrade automatically. The whole process takes a few minutes to run. After the upgrade is completed, Norton AntiVirus options are returned to their default settings. If you've customized scan settings or exclusions, for example, you must redo them. NOTE: When you update Norton AntiVirus using this patch program, the Help About box will indicate that the software is unregistered and for evaluation only. Ignore this text--it is an expected result of the patch process. Your software is still valid and registered. Troubleshooting --------------- If any critical Norton AntiVirus files are either damaged or missing, the NAVPATCH program will not work. In this case, you must uninstall Norton AntiVirus, reinstall it from your original distribution disks, then run the NAVPATCH program again. To uninstall Norton AntiVirus, choose Control Panels, choose Add/Remove Programs, select Norton AntiVirus on the Install/Uninstall tab, and click Add/Remove. *********************************************************************
