ARTISOFT ANNOUNCES TWO NEW NODERUNNER PRO(TM) ETHERNET ADAPTERS (LAS VEGAS, NV / COMDEX -- Nov. 13, 1995) Artisoft, Inc. (Nasdaq: ASFT) today announced two new NodeRunner(TM) Ethernet adapters. The NodeRunner Pro UTP Ethernet adapter will support 10BASE-T (unshielded twisted pair) cabling and the NodeRunner Pro Combo Ethernet adapter will support both 10BASE-T and 10BASE2 (thin coaxial) cabling. The adapters will be sold with pricing starting at $99 and $109 respectively for the UTP and Combo versions and each will be sold in one, five and 10-user packages. These new IEEE 802.3-compliant adapters will be compatible with a variety of networking environments, including Artisoft's LANtastic(R) network operating systems, Novell's NetWare(R) and Microsoft's Windows(R) 95. The adapters are expected to begin shipping in December 1995. "These new adapters demonstrate Artisoft's continued commitment to providing complete networking solutions, including both hardware and software, to our resellers and end users," said Artisoft Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Bill Peterson. "These new hardware products are the perfect match for the LANtastic family of products, providing the assured compatibility and one-stop technical support that comes with a single vendor solution," he said. Based on Intel's S82595FX ISA Ethernet Controller Chip, the NodeRunner Pro Ethernet adapters use one-third the power of other Ethernet adapters, while providing superior performance for high- powered PCs. The NodeRunner Pro Ethernet adapters increase network throughput by using concurrent processing, an early transmit and receive technology. Initial testing by Artisoft has shown the new adapters to be almost 50% faster than Artisoft's NodeRunner/SI(TM) adapters. The NodeRunner Pro Ethernet adapters are further enhanced with a 32KB buffer RAM, which increases performance by reducing overhead on networks with high traffic and/or multitasking operating systems. In addition, the adapters use 32-bit instructions for higher performance and lower CPU utilization, and include Desktop Management Interface (DMI) support for managing network PCs with DMI-compliant applications. These robust adapters also meet the Microsoft and Intel- developed standard for Plug-and-Play compatibility, automatically resolving I/O conflicts with other devices. The software configurable adapters will support the LANtastic networks' native drivers as well as DOS, Windows v3.x, MS OS/2, IBM(R) OS/2(R), Novell(R) NetWare, Windows NT(TM) v3.1 and v3.5, Windows 95, and SCO UNIX(R) environments. These new Windows 95-certified adapters will be included in the total solution hardware/software add-on kits and starter kits for Artisoft's recently announced LANtastic for Windows 95 network, a 32-bit client and server version of the LANtastic system. Inclusion of these adapters will enable LANtastic for Windows 95 to take advantage of the 32-bit processing of Windows 95. (Nasdaq: ASFT) today announced two new hub/concentrators for use in 10BASE-T network installations. The two models are the Artisoft(R) T-Runner(TM) II Hub-8, an eight-port concentrator priced at $229 (MSRP), and the T-Runner II Hub-16, a 16-port concentrator priced at $459 (MSRP). These external, IEEE 802.3- compliant concentrators will be compatible with all major Ethernet environments, including Artisoft's LANtastic(R) network operating system and Novell's NetWare(R). The hubs are expected to begin shipping later this month. "Our resellers and small to mid-size business customers tell us they want networking hardware built to the same quality standards as their LANtastic software, and these hubs provide just that," said Artisoft Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Bill Peterson. "Because these hardware products adhere to industry standards, Artisoft customers can use them with the LANtastic family of products or with other major networking products." The T-Runner II Hubs will allow users to easily expand their networks and share computer resources. The T-Runner II Hub-8 will connect up to eight client or server PCs, portable PCs and print servers via its RJ-45 ports. The T-Runner II Hub-16 will function in the same way, except that it will connect up to 16 devices. These passive hubs comply with the IEEE 802.3 10BASE2, 10BASE5 and 10BASE-T Ethernet standards, and will have the capability to cascade to other hubs, giving users even greater flexibility in expanding their networks. The T-Runner II Hub-8 can be daisy chained to other hubs via its 10BASE2 thin coax port or its eighth RJ-45 (10BASE-T) port. The T-Runner II Hub-16 will connect to other hubs similarly, through its 10BASE2 thin coax port, its 16th RJ-45 (10BASE-T) port, or its AUI (10BASE5) port. Both hubs are designed to provide network stability, keeping connected devices up and running if one or more devices crash. The hubs will support auto partition and reconnection to isolate faulty nodes and collision activity. In addition, each 10BASE-T port on the hubs will have a built-in polarity detect and correct logic feature, reducing the possibility for crossed wires or cabling problems. Users will be able to verify network setup and node activity at a glance on both hubs via Link/Data status LEDs, which will indicate proper operation and connection for each port. Both hubs will also include a status power-on LED. The hubs are designed to be set up in minutes without software configuration. Their small size and built-in brackets will allow them to be conveniently placed on desktops, stacked with other hubs or mounted on a wall. They will come with a three-year limited hardware warranty, and free technical support upon product registration.
