ARTISOFT'S LANTASTIC(R) NETWORK TO BE BUNDLED WITH IBM'S NEW WIRELESS LAN ENTRY SYSTEM (TUCSON, AZ -- March 15, 1995) -- Artisoft, Inc. announced today that its award-winning LANtastic network operating system will be bundled with IBM Corporation's new Wireless LAN Entry system. The bundle, which is expected to ship in April, consists of a single-user version of the LANtastic v6 .0 network and a PCMCIA adapter that fits in a laptop computer. The bundle is priced at $445 and will be available through IBM's distribution channels. "We're very pleased that the LANtastic network was chosen for inclusion in IBM's new entry-level product in the wireless LAN market," said Artisoft's President and CEO William C. Keiper. "We believe the IBM adapter combined with the LANtastic network will provide customers with a powerful, affordable and easy-to-use wireless network solution," he added. The IBM Wireless LAN Entry system permits networks to exist where wiring would be too expensive or impractical. It was designed to meet the needs of hospitals, retail stores, factories and other businesses seeking to quickly create economical computer networks or for personnel like nurses or inventory clerks who "roam" within predictable boundaries. With this system, mobile networks can be moved, altered, shut down and reopened in response to changing conditions. The LANtastic network combines state-of-the-art computer networking with built-in electronic mail, scheduler and fax capabilities. It includes advanced security, universal client technology for compatibility with a variety of platforms including IBM LAN Server, and network management capabilities to monitor network activity and tune network performance in almost any configuration. The LANtastic network, which starts at $119 for a single-user version, is available in packages for 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 users. This bundle marks a continuing alliance between Artisoft and IBM. Last year the two companies entered into a cross-licensing agreement to exchange driver-level software for inclusion in their respective network operating systems. The technology was incorporated into Artisoft's LANtastic for OS/2(R) network and IBM's LAN Server v4.0 network. The bundle includes a coupon for customers in the United States to purchase a single-user version of the LANtastic for OS/2 network for $99, a savings of $40 off the $139 MSRP.
