******************************************************** 2-IMPRESS README! File --- Version 1.00 ******************************************************** This file contains important information to help you get the most from 2-IMPRESS. Please review this information before using the program. A NOTE ABOUT SHAREWARE ---------------------- 2-IMPRESS is distributed as "Shareware." Shareware is not free software. It is a distribution concept that allows a "try before you buy" evaluation period of the software. Any fee you may have paid to a shareware distribution service was for their service and materials only, and does not provide any compensation to the author. However, as a marketing tool, we have made this limited version of 2-IMPRESS freely available to all. You may feel free to use this product as long as you like, free of charge. The registered version does have its advantages though. When registering 2-IMPRESS, you will receive the latest full featured program version, several additional saver-modules, and support for MMPM/2. Features which are disabled in the free version include: the ability to change passwords, and the ability to use all saver-modules. To register, print the file "order.txt" from the "About" dialog, fill in the blanks and mail with check or money order for the amount indicated to the address shown on the order form. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING SHAREWARE! NOTE: WPSaver is packaged using Info-ZIP's compression utility. Info-ZIP's software (Zip, UnZip and related utilities) is free and can be obtained as source code or executables from various anonymous-ftp sites, including ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip/*. Page 1 INSTALLATION OF BASE PROGRAM ---------------------------- All that is necessary is to copy the programs folder with its contents to someplace on your desktop or hard drive. Actually, the program can even be run from a floppy disk if the disk is left in the drive so the program can find the necessary libraries. It is also a good idea to drag a shadow of the executable, "2impress.exe", to the desktop for easy access. If you would like to run the program from the command line from any directory, or for some reason you want to split the programs components into different directories it will be necessary to edit your config.sys file. Add the directory holding 2IMPRESS to the PATH statement, and add the directory holding the DLL files to you LIBPATH statement. INSTALLATION OF ADDITIONAL MODULES ---------------------------------- 2IMPRESS uses dynamic link libraries to provide the different screen saver effects. These libraries have the ".DLL" extension, and there is one for each different saver-module. To install a new module, you will need to copy the DLL to 2IMPRESS' directory and register its name in the file "saver.nam". "Saver.nam" is a plain ASCII text file. Use the System Editor to add the name of the new DLL followed by an underscore to the end of this file. For example, if you've recieved a new module called "newsaver.dll", you would add the line: newsaver_ to the end of the "saver.nam" file. The next time you start 2IMPRESS, your new module will show up in the Module Selection Dialog Box. Page 2 STARTING 2IMPRESS ---------------------------------- Start 2IMPRESS like any other OS/2 application--Double click its icon, put it on LauchPad, or start the executable from the command line (provided the executable is in the current path). The program can be used immediately with the default settings. As a default 2IMPRESS will -timeout in 3 minutes -cycle through all availble modules -have Password Protection disabled. USING 2IMPRESS ---------------------------------- The controls of 2IMPRESS are simple and self explanatory. MODULE-Shows a list of available modules from which to choose. When this window has the focus, start typing the name of a desired module and the dialog box will automagically finish. Timeout-This defines the amount of time the system lies dormant before the screen savers start. A setting of '0' will cause a timeout of 15sec. and is the minimum. The maximum is 15minutes. I've had to make assumptions. One of those is that if you want more than 15 minutes delay in a screen saver, then you really don't want a screen saver. Of course, I'm open to suggestions. Password Protected-Switching on this box will cause a dialog box to appear asking for a password. The '*' character comes up instead of the real password. From then on, when 2IMPRESS times out you will need to enter your case-sensitive password before you can regain access to the desktop. You will receive the Password Dialog Box EVERYTIME password protection is enabled; however, it is not necessary to change the password. Clicking 'OK' will keep the previous word. ********************************************************************** WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING Password editing has been disabled in the free version of 2IMPRESS. For the free version, the password is ALWAYS "Password". WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING!!WARNING ********************************************************************** Cycle Savers-This will cause 2IMPRESS to randomly rotate through all available modules. The rate is determined by the Timeout value. Each module will display for the amount of time set by the Timeout value. Disable-This switch is used to temporarily stop 2IMPRESS from timing out. Sound-Requires MMPM/2. Determines whether sound enabled modules will produce sound. The free modules do not have sound available. OK-Will cause all settings to become active for use in the current session. Settings will not bet set until either 'OK' or 'SAVE' is clicked. SAVE-Will store all settings in a file called "savers.ini". CANCEL-Will dismiss the dialog box without changing anything. RESET-Will reload the the values from the "savers.ini" file. Good for retrieving your settings after experimentation.
