Q HOW DO I RECORD AND PLAY BACK MY REMINDERS? First, you must install Speak for Yourself. If you are reading this, you probably already have already installed Speak for Yourself. You can begin recording your reminders of one of two ways: 1. Click on the Windows Menu and then click on Browse Reminder List. 2. Click on the Speak for Yourself icon and the Browse Reminder List will be displayed. 3. The Reminder Browse List is then displayed. Press the INSERT key OR click on the Insert Button OR press Alt and the I key to add a Reminder. The Reminder Form screen is self explanatory. Fill this information in and you have your first reminder. Q WHEN I ADD A REMINDER AND PRESS SAVE, I GET ANOTHER SCREEN. HOW DO I CANCEL THIS IF I DO NOT WANT TO ADD A NEW REMINDER AT THAT TIME? When you add a new reminder in Speak for Yourself, it assumes you want to add several reminders. Instead of returning to the Reminder List after each time you add a new reminder, the Adding Reminder screen is displayed to save you some time. Just press the Cancel Button. This action tells Speak for Yourself to quit adding reminders. Q MY REMINDERS ARE NOT BEING PLAYED AT THE RIGHT TIMES. WHY? There are several things that may be wrong. 1. Your computer must be powered on, Speak for Yourself must be running either in an open window or minimized and the Reminder List must be displayed in order for your computer's internal system clock to tell Speak for Yourself 'It is time to play the reminder'. First, start Speak for Yourself and then display the reminder list. Then you can either keep the Speak for Yourself application open all the time or minimize it. 2. Your output for playing back wave files may not be high enough. Consult your sound card manual on how to increase this. Normally, this is done with some type of mixer application included with your sound card. 3. If your reminder is not playing back at the right time but you have the right date, ensure that when you enter times, you designate whether the time is AM or PM. For example if you want a reminder to play back at 8:30 in the morning, enter this time in as 0830A. After pressing tab or saving the reminder, this will be changed and formatted for 8:30AM. 4. After checking all the above and your reminders still do not play, try testing your sound card by trying another application that uses your sound card. If you do not have another application that uses your sound card, try going into the Windows Control Panel. Click on the Sound icon. Select different sounds and then click on the test button. If you hear these sound coming out of your sound card speakers, chances are your sound card is configured correctly and there is a problem with your recorded playback output. See answer 1 above. Q I WANT TO CHANGE THE SORT ORDER OF MY REMINDERS. HOW DO I DO THIS? There are only three sort orders currently available in Speak for Yourself. Sorted by Reminder, Sorted by Date and Sorted by WaveFile. To display any of these sort orders, click on the tab you would like, and the corresponding order is automatically displayed in that sort order. Q IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET HELP WITHOUT DISPLAYING THIS SCREEN? On many of the fields and buttons in Speak for Yourself there are 'Tip Boxes' that are displayed if you place your mouse arrow anywhere on the item in question. Q I DO NOT LIKE TO MOVE MY MOUSE ALL OVER THE PLACE TO GET SOMETHING DONE. HOW CAN I USE MY MOUSE BUTTON TO ADD, CHANGE OR DELETE A REMINDER? By move your mouse arrow over the Reminder in the Reminder List and pressing your RIGHT MOUSE KEY, a drop down selection list will be displayed allowing you to Insert, Change or Delete. Q I DON'T SEE AN OK BUTTON WHEN I DELETE A REMINDER The SAVE Button duals as an OK Button. Anytime where clicking on an OK button would be appropriate, just click on the SAVE Button. Q HOW DO I REGISTER SPEAK FOR YOURSELF? The easist way to register is through CompuServe. Just click on the traffic light and type in SWREG. Or, type GO SWREG at any prompt.
