** Welcome to the KEDIT for Windows Demo!

Thank you for your interest in this demo version of KEDIT for Windows.
The KEDIT for Windows demo allows you to try out all of the features of
KEDIT, including saving files and writing your own macros. The only
difference between the demo and the production version of KEDIT for
Windows is that there is a 75-line limit on the files that you can save
to disk.

KEDIT for Windows is a general purpose Windows text editor. Text mode
DOS and OS/2 versions of KEDIT are also available. KEDIT works with
standard text files, features a powerful set of commands, and provides
the ability to edit and view several files at a time, to mark and
manipulate blocks of text, and to tailor the editing environment to suit
your needs.

One special aspect of KEDIT is its compatibility with XEDIT, the IBM
mainframe text editor used under VM/CMS. Many of XEDIT's commands and
features have been implemented in KEDIT.

When you purchase a full copy of KEDIT for Windows 1.5, you will receive
a complete set of KEDIT for Windows documentation, including the
300-page User's Guide and 400-page Reference Manual. The contents of
both of these manuals are available online in the KEDIT for Windows Help
file included with this demo.

This demo version of KEDIT for Windows is provided solely for the
purpose of helping you evaluate the capabilities of KEDIT, and you
have permission to use the demo only for that purpose.

** Installation

This version of the demo is distributed in a ZIP file. To install the
demo, unzip the files contained in the ZIP file to a temporary directory,
and then run SETUP.EXE from the temporary directory.

** Getting Started with the KEDIT for Windows Demo

Assuming you select the default options when you run the KEDIT demo's
Setup program, you can run the demo module by selecting the KEDIT for
Windows item from the Windows 95 or Windows NT Start Menu. (Under
Windows NT 3.51, a KEDIT for Windows group is added to the Program
Manager.) Remember that the demo version contains all of the features of
the full product, and can work with any file that the full product can
work with, but there is a 75-line limit on the size of the files that
can be saved.

Complete documentation for KEDIT for Windows is in the Help file,
KEDITW.HLP, that is included as part of this demo. Here are some hints
about where to get started in the documentation:

- If you are new to KEDIT:

If you have never used KEDIT before, you should look at the 'Getting
Started' and 'Basic Features' sections of the Help file for important
introductory information.

Users of IBM's XEDIT editor should also read the 'XEDIT Users' section
of the Help file for information about KEDIT's XEDIT compatibility
features.

- If you are a user of KEDIT for DOS or OS/2:

If you are a user of KEDIT for DOS or OS/2, you should look at the
'Getting Started' and 'Basic Features' section of the Help file. You
should also look at the 'For Upgraders' section of the Help file for
information about the differences between text mode versions of KEDIT
and KEDIT for Windows. You should also be aware of the Options Interface
menu item; it displays a dialog box that lets you adjust some of KEDIT
for Windows' keyboard and mouse behavior to be more like that of text
mode KEDIT.

- If you are a user of KEDIT for Windows 1.0:

Users of KEDIT for Windows 1.0 should look at the 'For Upgraders'
section of the Help file for information about the changes in this
version of KEDIT.

** Uninstalling the KEDIT for Windows Demo

If you decide to purchase KEDIT for Windows, you can install the
production version directly on top of the demo version and do not need
to uninstall the demo.

If you decide to uninstall the 32-bit KEDIT for Windows demo, you can do
so under Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 by opening Add/Remove Programs
from the Control Panel and double-clicking on 'KEDIT for Windows 1.5'.
Under Windows NT 3.51, open and MS-DOS command session, switch to the
directory where the KEDIT for Windows demo is installed, and issue
the command
