Air Warrior (r) by Kesmai Corporation Copyright 1995, All Rights Reserved Welcome to the skies of Air Warrior! Last Updated: 03/21/96 This is the Readme file for the "Minimum Download" version of Air Warrior. After installing this version you will have everything needed to run Air Warrior. To practice offline (single-player mode), execute Air Warrior from the icon created by the Setup program. To play online (multiplayer mode), launch Air Warrior from the Kesmai Air Warrior Web page. The launcher installation instructions are provided below. To enhance the game, you may want to download the Air Warrior Expansion Pack. This download contains approximately 9MB of art and sounds which greatly improve the look and feel of the game. Minimum Requirements: ===================== - An IBM compatible 486-66 computer (Pentium is recommended) - 8MB of RAM (12MB recommended) - A hard disk drive with approximately 16 megabytes free. - A 1MB local bus video card and monitor capable of 640x480 resolution and 256 colors. - Either a mouse or joystick (we recommend both). Air Warrior Installation (if you have not already installed Air Warrior): ========================================================================= If your operating system is Windows 3.1 (or WFW 3.11), you will need to install both WinG and Win32s to run Air Warrior (WinG and Win32s are provided as separate downloads). If your operating system is Windows 95, you will only need to install WinG. - Using the File Manager in Windows, go to the directory where you downloaded the Air Warrior self-extracting archive. Double-click the file, which will decompress the archive in that directory. - Double-click the file SETUP.EXE (or execute this file by "RUNning" it from the FILE menu). - Within the SETUP program, accept the default installation directory or type the directory that you want Air Warrior installed into. - Next, choose or create the "Program Group" for the Air Warrior icons. - Once the installation is complete, either run Air Warrior by clicking on the Air Warrior icon (single-player mode), or by executing Air Warrior from the Kesmai Web page (multi-player mode). Joystick Installation Notes: ============================ Although Air Warrior (r) may be executed with only a mouse, a joystick is recommended to fly Air Warrior (r). However, the installation program does *not* install the joystick driver. For Windows 95, you need the VJOYD driver, which is distributed with Windows 95 (please consult your Windows 95 manual for installation notes). Even though you may calibrate it in the Windows 95 Control Panel, you still need to calibrate it within Air Warrior (Setup->Controls). For Windows 3.1 and WFW 3.11, you need the IBMJOY.DRV file which may be found in the IBMJOY.ZIP archive. This archive exists in the following locations: 1) Windows Software Library on America Online 2) CompuServe WINSHARE/General Win Utils WINMM/MDK PWOFORUM/Win 16bit Apps/Util PCDUK/Windows Apps 2) http://proper.com:70/1/vff/pc/general/win-misc 3) http://www.csusm.edu/cwis/winworld/sdl.html 4) http://www.jumbo.com/home/win/misc The procedure for installation and setup of IBMJOY is as follows: · Start the Drivers applet from the control panel. Click the Add button. · On the Add Driver dialog, select 'Unlisted or updated driver', and click OK. · On the OEM Driver dialog, enter the driver directory path (i.e. "C:\IBMJOY\", where C: is your hard drive), and click OK. · In the list of OEM drivers dialog, select 'Driver for Joystick', and click OK. · In the Game Adapter Setup dialog, select 'One or two 2-Dimensional joysticks', and click OK. · Exit Windows and reboot Launcher Configuration (you need this to launch from the WWW): ============================================================= Note: These directions will vary depending upon the version of Netscape Navigator (TM) you are using. You are now ready to launch Air Warrior from the Web. Helpful Hints: ============== - The first time you run Air Warrior, you will be presented with the "Guide" which will help guide you through the game. Tooltips will be visible as well (see below). To turn either feature off, press the right mouse button, which will present a set of menu options for turning off these features. - After the initial startup screens are displayed, you will be presented with a main airfield screen. If you move you mouse around slowly, you will get "tooltips" which indicate the hotspots you may press to get you into the game. Hitting the control key will show you all the tooltips on any screen. You may disable these "tooltips" in the future by going into SETUP->User Preferences. - You should first go into SETUP and configure your controls. This is done by clicking on the SETUP hangar and then clicking on the mechanic's clipboard. To check to see that your sound card is working with the program, click on the loudspeaker on the upper right-hand side of the setup hangar. Here you can set the volume and test it. - After configuring your controls, you may either fly "Solo" or "Multi-Player". At the main airfield screen, the three planes at the top represent multi-player mode. The Solo hangar represents solo mode. Note that if you came through the Web and are connected to our service, you will not be allowed to play Solo mode (off-line). - If you go into Multi-Player mode, you first must choose an arena. This will take you to an Officers Club (OC). Once in the Officers Club, you can talk to other players, go to Headquarters (HQ), etc. To fly, you have to select an airfield. You can do this either by clicking on the Spitfire at the OC, or the map on the table in HQ. Selecting an airfield takes you to its Ready Room. Here you can click on the aircraft ID silhouette on the wall to select a plane. To fly it, click on the Airfield door on the left-hand side of the ready room. - Once in the cockpit, hit "8" to start your engines, upper case "C" to throttle up, and off you go! To raise your landing gear, hit the semicolon key. To engage war emergency power, hit the 7 key. To return to full military power, hit the 7 key again. To throttle back, hit the v key, and to apply wheel brakes hit your spacebar. To fire your guns, use either the f key, or button 1 on your joystick.
