Strife v1.2 Updater Readme - 30 Apr 1996 ========================== This document contains some important and interesting information pertaining to the Strife updater. The Strife 1.2 Updater comes in two flavors. One for DOS and one for Windows. They both do the exact same thing, so just pick the platform you are more comfortable using. Notes on the Update: -------------------- * APPLYING THIS PATCH WILL INVALIDATE ALL YOUR SAVED GAMES. To avoid problems with incompatible versions of Strife, the version that creates saved games is stored in the save game files. If they do not match, Strife WILL NOT LOAD your save game. If you have already played Strife for a significant amount of time, you may want to wait until you've finished the game before you update. Read about the items that were changed and make your decision. * If you've already run the patch, and decided you shouldn't have, you can copy the files STRIFE1.EXE and STRIFE1.WAD from the Strife CD back into your Strife directory by hand. Files that have changed: ------------------------ STRIFE1.EXE, STRIFE1.WAD, SETUP.EXE, README.TXT, MULTI.TXT, VERSION.TXT. Things that have been changed: ------------------------------ * Fixed a bug in network play that caused consistency failures. * Fixed a few little items on the levels, mostly cleanup and positioning problems. * Changed the default for conversation text to ON when you specify no sound card. To apply the patch, simply run the patch program that you downloaded, STRIFE12.EXE. It will walk you through the update process. It will ask you to locate the directory that you installed Strife in, and then will update the files there. The updater requires approximately 30 MB free space on the drive that you have Strife installed on. This is used temporarily while the patch program creates the updated .WAD file.
