Last Minute Notes -------------------- * This product release contains both 16-bit and 32-bit versions of Stable Technical Graphs; named STABLE.EXE and STABLE32.EXE respectively. STABLE.EXE should run under all versions of Windows successfully. STABLE32.EXE is intended for Windows 95 and NT only. * If you are having problems running the 32-bit version of Stable, please read the "Installation" section below. The problem may be related to missing DLL's of which we have a possible solution. * For the most part, the STABLE.INI file is interchangeable between both 16/32-bit versions - with the exception of graph attachments. Attachments created using one version of Stable will not be recognized by the other version. Additionally, any attachments saved with one version deletes all attachments saved by the other. * If you are upgrading from a previous version of Stable, the 16-bit version of Stable 2.3 will recognize your existing attachments. The 32-bit version will not. 2. Internet Web Site and Email ------------------------------ WINTERRA Software Group, Inc. has a web site at http://www.winterra.com Please take the time to visit our site for the latest information about our company and products. System Requirements ---------------------- Stable Technical Graphs is a Microsoft Windows application requiring the following minimal hardware configuration: o An 80x86 personal computer running Microsoft Windows 3.1 and above, Windows 95, or Windows NT. o 4MB RAM. o VGA (640x480) or higher resolution. o System mouse or other pointing device. o System printer for producing printed charts (optional). Two versions of Stable Technical Graphs are provided. STABLE.EXE is the 16-bit version of Stable for use on Windows 3.1+; STABLE32.EXE is the 32-bit version of Stable for use on Windows 95 and NT. 4. What Data Files Do I Use? ---------------------------- Stable Technical Graphs is a financial analysis and charting application requiring you to have existing (or access to) financial historical data in one of the following supported formats: o TeleChart 2000 (TC2000) o MetaStock o CSI (Commodity System Inc.) o Technical Tools o ASCII ASCII is the most flexible, allowing you to use (worst case) any ASCII text editor to edit and maintain your data files manually. Most spreadsheets can also export or save data in this format if you choose to maintain your financial data files in this manner. ************* * IMPORTANT * ************* We have provided several financial ASCII data files that you can use to evaluate and run Stable Technical Graphs. To access these files, perform the following steps: 1. Select File/Open Chart... from the application menu. 2. In the Open Chart dialog, select "ASCII" as the import file type and navigate to the directory you installed Stable Technical Graphs. The File Name list should display the following financial data files: AAPL.CSV Apple Computer, Inc. HRB.CSV H&R Block DJ30.CSV Dow Jones 30 Industrials 3. Select one of the sample files and click the OK button. See the online help for further details about the ASCII file format supported by Stable. 5. Installation --------------- The evaluation version of Stable Technical Graphs is normally provided in compressed format (.ZIP, .ARC, etc.) 1. The simplest form of installation is to copy the compressed file to a single directory (i.e. \STABLE). If you have a previous version of Stable Technical Graphs on your hard drive, and you want to retain it, create a different directory (i.e., \STAB230). The data files that you will be using with this product (and provided by you) can reside in any directory you choose. 2. Decompress the Stable file using the appropriate decompression program (PKUNZIP.EXE for .ZIP file, PKXARC.EXE for .ARC, etc.) All distribution files should remain in the same directory. 3. Execute STABLE.EXE or STABLE32.EXE from Windows. STABLE.EXE is the 16-bit version of Stable Technical Graphs for use on all versions of Windows. STABLE32.EXE is the 32-bit version of Stable for use on Windows 95 and NT only. ************* * IMPORTANT * ************* If the 32-bit version of Stable (STABLE32.EXE) fails to run under Windows 95 or NT, it is likely that a support DLL named CTL3D32.DLL does not exist on your system. WINDOWS 95 USERS: If the file CTL3D32.DLL does not exist in your Windows 95 \SYSTEM directory, copy the supplied file CTL3D95.DLL to your \SYSTEM directory and rename it to CTL3D32.DLL. WINDOWS NT USERS: If the file CTL3D32.DLL does not exist in your Windows NT \SYSTEM32 directory, copy the supplied file CTL3DNT.DLL to your \SYSTEM32 directory and rename it to CTL3D32.DLL. To remove Stable Technical Graphs from your computer, simply delete the directory in which you installed Stable. No other files are affected. 6. Version 2.3 Description --------------------------- Stable Technical Graphs 2.3 is a minor upgrade. This upgrade provides the following new features and changes: o Intra-day chart support has been included in the product. Intra-day data includes a time field within the data. o ASCII file support now includes intra-day through the addition of the field identifier 'T' (See "Supported File Formats" in the online help or the chapter "Data Files" in the manual). o Stable now recognizes MetaStock intra-day format defined within 7-field records. The following describes the field order for both daily and intra-day files recognized by Stable: Daily File Intra-day File ---------- -------------- Date Date Open Time High Open Low High Close Low Volume Close Open Interest Volume o Two new indicators have been added; Williams %R and Force Index. See the online help "List of Technical Indicators" for brief descriptions of all indicators. o Export ASCII data now includes Time field support. o All Group selection dialogs now sort the list by group name. o Manual graph labeling is now fully implemented as it relates to horizontal divisions in a graph. If "Force Automatic Graph Labeling" is on (see Options/Chart....), all graphs are automatically labeled by Stable. If this option is off, all graphs are automatically labeled only if the graph has been assigned a value of zero (0) in the "Horizontal Divisions" field (see Graph/Parameters...). o Default ASCII file format has been expanded to include 8 and 9 field formats (see Options/File Import...). o Functionality has been added allowing charts to be copied between all existing groups (see File/Copy Chart to Group...). Note that the F2 key has been assigned to this function. o Net change has been added to the title display on all price graphs. o Interactive attachment support has been enhanced for intra-day charts. o The following accelerator key changes have been made to standardize between applications: Ctrl+P Print Ctrl+Shift+P Print all charts in group Ctrl+T Parameters... o Graph attachments are not portable between the 16 and 32-bit versions of the product. o General bug fixes. 7. Program Tips and Notes ------------------------- o If you regularly use a large number of charts, it is best to store your charts among several different groups instead of a single group. Using a large number of charts at once can quickly use up your system memory and resources - producing unwanted memory errors to occur in some situations. o If you find memory errors occurring on your printer when you attempt to print your charts (particularly with laser printers), lower the quality of the output by reducing the dots per inch setting or selecting medium quality output. o The Relative Strength indicator must always be based on a chart contained within the group. However, you may not want that particular chart displayed along with the other charts in the group. Try minimizing the chart so that the window is displayed as an icon at the bottom of the program desktop area. Also, do not include a Relative Strength graph in any chart that is itself being used as a Relative Strength reference. 8. Additional Information ------------------------- o All documentation files supplied with this product can be printed by simply outputting the file contents to your system printer. Documentation files include files with the .TXT extension. o Please verify that you have all the files for this distribution by checking the PACKING.LST file. o Refer to the LICENSE.TXT file for complete information on product distribution terms and restrictions. 9.
