TEXT-VIEW --------- Contents -------- 1 - Users guide 2 - Installation 3 - Registration details USERS GUIDE ----------- Overview -------- The program reads text files, dividing them into pages where appropriate, and displays them on the screen. The viewing window is automatically set to the correct size to display the whole document. There are 2 views provided: 1: A quick review, during which the next document may be selected with the UP, DOWN, HOME and END keys. 2: A more detailed view with control over font size, position on the screen and movable "windows" which can be used to extract titles and headings etc. The program is designed to be used on a laptop, so no double-clicking is required as this can be difficult on some machines, and the "Alt" key is not required for "Hot keys". Keystrokes can be used as an alternative to the mouse for most functions as this is often quicker. Select Directories ------------------ Click on the scroll bar or use the UP, DOWN, HOME and END keys to choose the desired directory. Pressing the first letter of the directory name will select that directory if available. Click once, or press ENTER or the SPACEBAR to open the selected directory. Do not double-click. The BACKSPACE key moves control to the File selection box. Another drive letter may be chosen in conjunction with the CONTROL key. Select Files ------------ Click on the required file name, or use the UP, DOWN, HOME and END keys. Note that the file is opened immediately and the contents displayed on the screen. Pressing TAB takes control back to the directory selection box. Display Documents ----------------- There are two methods of enlarging the document for viewing: Viewing mode 1 -------------- Simply click on the document with the mouse. The area clicked is displayed 3 point sizes bigger. Subsequent clicks enlarge again until a font size of 9 is reached, when the document will revert to its original size. If the document contains more than one page, the LEFT and RIGHT keys move between pages. In this view, the UP, DOWN, HOME and END keys still operate to open new files, allowing quick review of many documents. Press the ENTER key or click on Top Left, Top Right etc. to switch to viewing mode 2. Viewing mode 2 -------------- The document is displayed in font size 9. Adjust this with the "+" and "-" buttons, or the "+" and "-" keys on the keyboard. In this mode, the UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT keys operate on the document. Toggle between large or small steps with the <-------> button, the "," or "." keys or the space bar. Move to TOP LEFT with the HOME key or BOTTOM RIGHT with the END key, or use the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys. The ENTER key switches back to Full Page (Viewing mode 1) Movable "Windows" - Viewing mode 2 ---------------------------------- Click on the document and drag the mouse down and right to open a window. Up to ten windows may be opened at once. These windows can be moved by dragging near the top with the mouse. The cursor will change to a cross-hair when the mouse is near the top of the window. Hold down the SHIFT key to make the window move vertically, or the CONTROL key to make it move horizontally. If the cursor is a four-headed arrow, the window will remain stationary when the document is moved. Click on the window to change to an up-down arrow and click again for a left-right arrow. The window will move in these directions when the document is moved. Click once again to close the window. A confirmation message will appear. If "No" is chosen, there is an option to make the window permanent, which will keep it open even when another document is opened, and the cursor will change to a crossed circle. Help ---- This is the only help provided. However, as it is a text file, this file itself can be loaded into "Text-View" and read on-screen. Closing "Text-View" ------------------- Use F4, or select Close from the Control Box at the top left of the screen. INSTALLATION ------------ This program is very small and quite simple to install.
