Heya netters!
The following story is not my own but my fiance's. Intrigued by some of
the stories I had d'led from this group, she wanted to share one of her
own. Enjoy!
Greetings!
Ghost stories have always fascinated me from my early childhood to this
very day, however I have always preferred the "true" stories and in my
line of work I've been able to experience them firsthand. I am a
spiritual counselor and teacher and have had my share of contact with
spirits along the way. Even as a child, I could walk into a place and
"sense" if it was "haunted". In one of my workshops I teach people to
further develop their psychic abilities, and the people in them seem to
have their own stories as well, which I will give you accounts of at a
later date. My first story is one of my own.
I had always loved old things, so at sixteen, when I started to earn
some money I began buying antiques for my bedroom. I was also attracted
to the sent of Lavender and used it alot to scent the room. Not long
after this I started to experience nightmares that woke me up around the
same time each night, about 2:30-3:00 am. When I would wake, I would be
in a sweat and had a uneasy feeling, so on the lights would go and stay
on for the remainder of the night so that I felt safe enough to fall
back to sleep. I also began to experience items disappearing on me like
a hairbrush, etc. My room didn't feel as good to me as it used to. The
nightmares became worse until one night I woke from one of them and felt
such an uneasy presence in the room that I jumped up and ran into my
mother's room, woke her up and asked if I could sleep in her bed that
night. She said that would be fine but to get my pillows from my bed.
Needless to say, I hesitated because I didn't want to go back in there!
But I can't sleep without my pillows :), so I went back in, grabbed them
quickly off the bed and ran out of there. As I was arranging them on her
bed, we heard a noise that was somewhat similar to a moan that lasted
about a minute. We both froze. I said "Did you hear that?" She said she
did. "What was it?" She said she didn't know. Neither one of us could
pinpoint where it came from because it seemed to come from everywhere.
After that night I would not sleep in my bedroom. I kept the door shut
and didn't go in unless absolutely necessary. Then we began to hear what
sounded like boxes being moved in the attic and tapping on the ceiling.
Our dogs would suddenly tuck their tails under and run at odd moments.
After two weeks of this I had had enough and my early instincts about
these things must have kicked in, for one day I marched into my room and
said something like,"Whatever or whoever you are, I've had enough of
this. I want you to leave and never return." After that, I had no more
problems and everything returned to normal.
Was it a poltergeist? At the age it happened its highly probable. I was
experiencing those oh so wonderful teenage problems and angst that is an
ingredient in poltergeist phenomena. It might have been a transitory
spirit attracted to the setting in my room I had gone through great
lengths to set up or a spirit still attached to one of the antiques I
had purchased. If I knew then what I know now :) I'd be better able to
say what it was one way or another, but it was a long time ago and I
would need to be experiencing the haunting as it is happening to feel
the"vibes" so to speak, and to tell you the truth I haven't really
thought about it too much. I find current happenings much more
stimulating. :)
Next time I'll recount my story about the ghost cat and haunted New
Jersey Restaurants, in the meantime....get ready to turn on the lights
and get your mom `cause ya never know what might visit you
tonight....(Vincent Price laughter) :)
