My father told me of a "ghostly" experience he had several
years ago.

He and my mother were spending a weekend in their cabin
in a remote wooded area in northern Wisconsin. In the
middle of the night he awoke to find his bedcovers slowly
moving down the bed. He grabbed hold of them and pulled
them back up, feeling resistance as he did so. As soon as
he let go of them, they started slowly moving down the
bed again.

Since my mother was sleeping in a separate bed out of reach
of his, the only thing he could think of to explain what
was happening was that an animal, maybe a raccoon, had somehow
gotten into the cabin and was on the floor at t he foot of his bed
pulling the covers down. So, he grabbed the covers, gave them a
sharp yank and yelled to try to scare the critter away.

He expected to hear some scampering noises as the animal ran
away, but instead heard nothing! By this time he was really scared,
wondering if he was being "haunted". He got up out of bed,
found a flashlight (no electricity in the cabin) and looked
all around, but found nothing unusual.

To this day he has never been able to explain why this happened.
It possible he dreamt the whole thing, but he says he's sure
he was wide awake. I know he's not making the story up, because
it really disturbs him. My mother, by the way, slept through the
whole thing.

Has anyone ever heard of this phenomenon of moving blankets,
perhaps in relation to poltergeists? If anyone has any
information, I'll relay it to my father. He's tired of everyone
telling him he just had a weird dream!
