the summer of my freshman year of college i went to connecticut to work for my aunt and uncle in their gourmet food store. on one of my days off i went hiking on the appalachain trail a few miles from home and got a bit turned around on one section of the trail. since iwas hiking alone and there was a thunderstorm brewing i was a little nervous. suddenly a dog that looked very much like my dog that my parents had recently put to sleep (right down to the blue collar) appeared a little ways before me on the trail and barked at me. she kept barking and runing towards me and then away from me until i decided to follow her. before too long i was at the base of the trail in a spot that i recognized. i tired to call her over, but she wuldn't come closer than three feet so i just said thanks Mooch (her name) and bent to tie my shoe. when i looked up she was gone. i know that it could have been any dog and just luck that brought me back to where i needed to be, but i'd like to think that it was my old pal helping me out of one last jam. like that newfie someone else posted about, dogs are very loyal.
