This is a pretty interesting story that happened about 15 years ago.


When I was about 13 years old,  I spent a lot of time at a health club during the summers to swim, play tennis and racquetball.  I met a young man about 19 years old named Richard.  He was really one of the nicest people I've ever met.  He was great with kids and was always helpful and friendly to everyone.  


One night Richard was driving home late from a friends house and had to swerve to avoid hitting a dog in the road. His car (a T-top Camero, TransAm or something like that) rolled 6 or 7 times.  He was not wearing a seat belt and was decapitated during the wreck.  All of the kids at the club were devastated because we all thought he was the "coolest".


About 5 years later my Mother decided I was old enough to tell me something very strange.  It seems that a friend of my Mothers, Anne, had had an affair with Richard for about a year before his death until he was killed.  She was married to a man named Dick, had two small children and was about 35 years old during the affair.


Anne confided in my mother about the affair right after Richard was killed because she was totally heart broken.  She even had to tell her husband, Dick,  because he obviously knew something was wrong.  Her marriage was very rocky after that.


Dick and Richard were two very different types of people.  Dick was a very stern and stuffy person who was always preoccupied with business and money, he wasn't very affectionate with his wife and kids.  Richard, on the other hand, was a very loving young man and very warm and friendly as mentioned before. 


Here is where it gets wierd...about 6 months after Richards fatal accident, Dick was in an accident on the same stretch of road, actually within 100 yards of where the first accident occurred.  He survived but was in a coma for 2 weeks.  When he came to, he was a completely different person...Richard!  He kept telling everyone that he was Richard, and needless to say everyone thought he had brain damage, except for Anne.


Anne told my Mother that Richard's ghost/spirit must have somehow caused the wreck and took over Dick's body.  Richard (formerly Dick, but won't answer to it anymore) swears he doesn't remember anything but having a wreck (the first one) and then waking up in Dick's  body.  Incidentally, he seems to have memories from Richards childhood that only he would have known, plus he has most of Dicks memories as well.


It has been about 15 years since the accidents and my Mother (who is a skeptic and convinced they are both nuts) occasionally talks to Anne who is very happy and in love with her husband, Richard.  They didn't tell but a very few people about the incident because they knew it was so unbelievable.   Family and friends who didn't know the truth have really enjoyed the positive change in Dick/Richard and attribute it to his near death experience.
